Not news.....I think once the NBA saw how easily the union fell apart last time, they will be happy to do it again to get costs under control. DD
Opposite of a worker strike. The owners 'lockout' the employees (players). A tactic used by the owners to gain negotiating leverage for the collective bargaining agreement. The NHL (hockey) is experiencing one right now.
It's not a 'walkout', it's the opposite... a 'lockout'. And no they don't. No ticket sales or TV revenues for the owners either.
Everyone loses. They need to work things out. Player salaries need to go down, and contracts need to be a bit shorter, imo, but the owners should give as well. It'll be hell for us if there's a lock out. Hangout and D&D might get interesting, though! Keep GARM Readable!!
Basically Owners should keep more money and players should settle for whatever scraps the Owners deem necessary NBA owners. . . the so smooth they don't even have to lie about not making a profit and people will still be on their sides better the old rich men get the money .. than the young poor men who are actually the talent Rocket River
I am glad the NHL is experiencing their lockout right now. Maybe the NBA will see what its doing to the NHLs product right now which is RAPIDLY dwindling! Hopefully the NBA can resolve stuff over the summer. The sucky part is that after the Draft the Lockout will start. And that means no fun "hot stove" NBA offseason.
No hot stove, but wild predictions of who ends up where, when we don't even have a CBA, are always fun. That was the only thing that kept us sane back in 1998. Deke is a Falk'er, he's very hard-line, but it's probably bluster. There will be a lockout, but I can't imagine it lasting deep into August.

Here's my question, when the owners lock the players out, are the players allow to play else where? I think a couple of exhibition games through China, Japan, Europe, richer countries in South American can be ok pocket/living expenses to some of the NBA players.
Without those 'rich' old men to pay them 100+ million to play a game what would all those young 'poor' men do all day. I don't deny their talent, but that talent buys you very little with the demand created by those terrible 'rich' old men. It is at least a symbiotic relationship in which neither can exist without the other. A six-seven year guaranteed contract is insane on the face of it, and exists in no other endeavor I know of. If anything the players killed the goose that laid that golden egg with all the 'one year wonders' that had an all-pro year, signed a big contract, and then coasted for six years. The Rox have a substancial group of those individuals. They, combined with the CAP rules, have handicapped the Rox for years.
right now in the NHL the players association (the union) is paying each player $10,000 a month. this is basically to get the players from folding into the owners hands.
I think it's outrageous that some NBA owners are considering a lockout. The should subsidize the player's salaries personally if needed and not worry if their team loses money.
