"After contributing the way that I did over the course of the season, I felt like I did deserve a little bit of time to play," Mutombo said. "I was disappointed about it and I'm frustrated that we're still not playing."

We agree with you Deke. If assistant coach Gundy was that worried about defense he would've put you in there for shot blocking purposes, in the least for shot changing purposes for a few reasons.

You had a heck of a season when Yao went out and you proved that you deserved playing time.

Yao was being abused to the degree that trying you wasn't even an option at that point, it was a must.

Your last year(s) should not be wasted and disrespected on the bench in one of the most important series of this teams lifespan, especially when you gave it all you had left in the tank.

It seems like more than a few Rockets players were frustrated with assistant coach's stale decision making.

Seems like you have it in your heart for another year though. Give it one last year for the fans who will undoubtedly welcome you back again.

    Sentimentality withstanding,sorry but I think it's about
    time for Mutombo to retire.
The Rockets need his money to help develop the team,
especially now that 'Win Now' Is out the window.
One hopes that the Rockets will now have a development
plan and a coach who is willing to train and play his younger players.

He can play another year, but hopefully not with the Rockets.

This was a HUGE question I asked during the playoffs. Seeing this guy as the #1 fan (on the bench) just wasn't right.

I think Deke can stay one more year under NEW coach, being co-backup center with Jake. (Should develop Jake more this time, tho)

Tsakalidis has a surprisingly nice jumper, high-arching, nice touch. That could be a real benefit if he works on it more over the summer.

Mutombo is still useful... but not against Boozer and Okur. He got some decent plays, but Juwan matched up better.

And anyone blaming Van Gundy not playing him should try and remember Deke was pretty much all washed up when he was kicked around by NJ and Chicago...

Deke is not a very effective defender anymore. Other than block shots, there's not much more he can do. Guys shoot over him all the time cause Deke gives them so much room and crouches down way too much. He needs to fix that.
