Since Yao will not play in the game what will happen to his position? will it go to the next highest vote getter (Amare)? Or will the coaches decide? I think if the coaches decide then Mutombo has a good chance of going to the game! Either on the bench or as a starter...who else is there in the west?

anyways I think we should start voting mutombo in just in case

He won't get in, either way. It will be Amare, or maybe they make Duncan the starting center and put another forward on the team.

Yao will get voted in by the fans. Yao will not play. Coaches will select Amare to replace Yao. Back-up centers will be selected by coaches and will either go to Camby or less likely Okur. Or coaches won't elect true center and allow Duncan/Dirk/Boozer/Randolph to get minutes at center.

I like the Mutombo love but he won't make the All Star team IMHO.

I want the WEST to win this time. Yao is not a factor when it comes to all-star games so it's better for him to rest for the second half of the season.

Same thing for Deke, instead he should be given a special award this all-star break for passing Jabbar in the blocking category.

    Go West.

come on guys, another time? Dikembe has been great, but he's in no way all star worthy. he's had 3 weeks of good play! Out of 10-11 weeks of chances! It just ain't gonna happen

yeah it would be a joke if he made it. 2.7 points, 5.7 boards, 1.2 bpg. not all-star numbers.

AS will start in place of Ming. If the coaches want a true center, Deke will be on the roster. However with TD,DN,KG & PG as the forwards, that doesn't leave any room for Josh Howard, Carlos Boozer, Elton Brand, Boris Diaw or Shawn Marion-all having good years. My guess is they will make Duncan a center to make room for 1 of the other 5 I mentioned.

Shaq is getting voted in, Deke is not. It doesn't matter how good you played when it comes to Starters. Fans vote who they want to see, not based on who has played better because thats the coaches job. Remember how Yao started his rookie season over Shaq? Shaq clearly had the better season but the fans (thanks China) wanted to see Big Yao.

I demand that Juwan Howard start in the all-star game.

    Next week: Rafer Alston.

I know Mutombo has been playing well the last 10 games or so but he has no chance of making it to the All Star game. The coaches are going to choose Amare and Okur perhaps. Even Camby will get a looksee before Mutombo.

Perhaps if he had been playing like this for most of the season, he might have a better case.

The coaches only pick the normal reserves. Then the commissioner, David Stern, picks injury replacements. Yao's replacement will be a good player who was passed up by both the fans and the coaches, although that's not such a huge problem since everyone knows that the West is stacked and that deserving players (usually forwards) are normally shafted.

Duncan will get crushed by Shaq but I really want Dwight Howard to start at C in eastern.

If it was only up to the Houston fans, I'm sure even Novak would be in the All-Star game! :D

Unfortunately, it's more of a popularity contest than anything - an event that is rarely memorable and only mentioned in one or two sentences under a player's bio ie "he was a 3 time MVP and 9 time All Star". Besides, he's already made the ASG 4 times before , I think what he really wants is a championship!! (don't we all.. )

Nope. Not sure about that either.

Too bad they don't have an "honorary" all-star position. One guy who gets the nod for career accomplishments or longevity like Mutombo.
