I know there are quite a few musicians on here with a wide range of taste. would ya'll want to throwdown on a compilation? I can get cd's pressed with album art for something like $2.50 a cd. any profit would go to the tipjar. the more eclectic the better. I'll throw down a track.
pretty cool idea - i would be down w/ "taking my talents" to a clutchfans mixtape. i realize everyone here knows me as the authority on black metal, but im actually a top-notch hip-hop recording artist/producer/rapper. for this compilation i might have to do a dis-rap about TOFs.
cool. I don't have any 'rules' as far as what goes on the album. I would rather not have any 'remixes' of existing songs. Covers would be fine, as long as it's not just karaoke. but I'm open to whatever the board agrees on. looks like 4 tracks are in so far. could probably go up to 24.
Would not be a clutchfans compilation without a cover of this... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/miG9wui0FfQ?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/miG9wui0FfQ?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
if it was a cover song going on a cd that is being sold commercially someone would have to pay for the rights to use it and that can get expensive (upwards of a few hundred bucks).
I wouldn't mind contributing. Not much of a singer though. I could get one of my buddies to sing for the track.
I am up for contributing but am wondering about the details? Are we supposed to get together for a recording session or is it up to us to record the music? What format do you want music we have recorded? Also some of my music has already been recorded in the band I play in so how would copyright's be handled for music recorded and played by the band?
Ok, I guess I could have been a little more specific. basically this would be a compilation of Clutchfans musicians materials. not a group recording, unless several members want to record a track with each other. I personally won't be doing that, but if ya'll want to, go ahead. I was thinking... ya'll record a track, at least 2 minutes, but no longer than 10 minutes. please be at least 256kbps. PM me a download link and I will put it all together on an album. all genres welcome. the more different the better. if anybody wants to release a physical copy, getting CD's printed with art isn't very expensive, and they would sell for something like $2.50 a copy. at that rate, there would be almost zero profit. I don't know much about copyright laws, but maybe it could be released under creative commons license to save a bunch of hassle. you can release the track under your band's name, your real name or your user handle. jo mama brought up a good point about covers. probably best to leave those out. as soon as enough members volunteer tracks, set a deadline to sumbit material. probably 30-45 days. then print, release and lulz.
Sounds like fun. I wish I had the time to get my chops back in shape. Props to whoever comes up with the funniest song based on a legendary thread or if LHutz covers Dr. Demento's They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa.
if its a song you or your band wrote than there is no copyright issue (assuming you have not sold the song rights to a 3rd party). you might at least want to let your bandmates know. i have some friends in a jesus lizard cover band and if i remember, when they recorded their album they had to pay $75 to ASCAP for each song they covered...and this is the jesus lizard here - not aerosmith or the beatles. you dont want to mess w/ the beatles - remember when danger mouse put out the gray album - he was giving it away and sir paul still made him take it down. we dont want to get landlord landry sued! or instead of cd's, just set up a page where people can donate to clutchfans thru paypal to download the album digitally - have the artwork and everything up so people can create their own hard copy if they want it. the whole thing would literally cost nothing - then nobody has to worry about making back the money for cd production and more money can go to clutchfans. i dont even think that would be necessary, but its not a bad idea and its free. creative commons allows the songwriter to keep the rights to their song, but allows it to be distributed by others provided they give the writer credit.
I'm actually working on the song for this mixtape already, Its a very important song and many will see why when I put it out there.... Right now I am still on the writing but its shaping up well... Is this thread the best way to stay in touch with you LandordLandy ?
