Everything about that video was awesome. It's all real, no CGI. (Look up Arab drifting on Youtube). Actually a 2010 beat, but nice to see it again with video.

It's going to be the summer of M.I.A.

If it's the Middle East/Pakistan and it involves motorized vehicles being used in insane sports, it's real.

The only ones I don't think are real are the ones with her riding on the side of the car. That car is propped up or something. But the drifting, skating, and spinouts are probably all real stunts since I've seen videos of stuff far worse. lol.

Ok, I'll be the first to say that rap is not my genre of choice...though I do listen to some...but why for the love of all that is holy is MIA such a popular "artist"? Admittedly, the stuff that I've listened of her are the popular radio hits, but all of them seem REALLY repetitive in lyrics and beat. It doesn't seem creative, she goes in the same dynamic all the time and just is outright boring to me at least. Can someone shed some light on why she's popular?

Dr of Dunk is right. At 2:49 you can see the prop up on her car

Best female rapper ever? I think she is awesome -- like the song... the only parts that are fake are the shots of her riding in the cars on two wheels.

The car is on a trailer.

cleverly disguised " this is my favorite video right now and you guys have to check it out" thread. =) I like it! Agree with KC she is one of the best. I would still take lauryn hill for substance and versatility as my favorite female mc of all time.

not to turn this political but
We have to liberate this region because drifting is soooo 2006.

One of the worst songs I've ever heard.

Any talent in that video besides the drivers was MIA.

It is entirely natural for the majority of people to enjoy an artist's music and for a single person to not enjoy it. It's a totally random and meaningless occurence given the nature of music. When you are in the mainstream, you're not a better "judge" of music. When you aren't in the mainstream, you are not a worse judge of music. It just may not be a style of music which suits your tastes.

This is why there are entire genres of music which people despise, even though there are obviously people who listen to that music as evidenced by their success.

Which is why I added that little addendum to the question which was "to me at least". However, I was asking a serious question about why people thought she was a great rapper. What about her makes her into something they want to listen to.

I may have worded it strongly to make you misconstrue that I was judging the people who listen to it....but I don't care what you or any other person listen to. If you like it, you like it...doesn't matter to me. But I would still like to know the reasons...if you have any.

I was a music teacher...and not one of those music teachers who only pushes their own kind of music onto the students and says that is the only thing that they should listen to. I was one who tried to expose the students to a variety of music and let them make their own decisions on it. I also encouraged them to tell me what they listen to and then listened to it and made my own judgments on whether I liked it or not.
