U2 Tour To Kick Off March 1 Look for U2 to start its world tour on March 1 in Florida in support of its new Interscope album, "How To Dismantle an Atomic Bomb," the band's manager Paul McGuinness tells Billboard. "We'll play approximately 35 shows in the arenas in the spring in the U.S., McGuinness says. U2 will then play 30 stadium shows across Europe, return to North America for another 35-date arena swing and the proceed to Japan and Australia. Rumors have circulated that potential openers include Snow Patrol and the Scissor Sisters. McGuinness said no decision has been made, but added "We love Snow Patrol. Their producer, Jacknife Lee, also worked on U2's album and they're Irish. There's a close connection." The upcoming trek will be promoted by Clear Channel Entertainment's TNA International, which is spearheaded by president Arthur Fogel. U2's 2001 tour, also promoted by Fogel, grossed $104 million from 106 shows worldwide, according to Billboard Boxscore. --------------- promoted by Clear Channel.... ugh, the money machine rolls on and on and on...
On the last tour, the floor was the cheapest at $45. First crack went to fan club members and then they had a presale on the internet. By the time the regular sell date came around, those floor "seats" were gone. I had to get a seat in the upper bowl for like $90 bucks. I'm not gonna miss out on the floor this time. Man, I hope that the 2nd leg of North America means they might play Houston twice.
Did they play any venues on both legs last time? It seems like the second leg of Elevation hit college towns like South Bend and Austin, but I could be wrong.
I would love to see U2 on this tour, but if tickets are outrageous (which they probably will be) I'm probably just not gonna do it...
U2 and Snow Patrol...that's a damn good combination! I might have to fly to the lower 48 for that one.
Man, i'm not the biggest U2 fan in the world, but they are one of the bands I want to see in my lifetime. I hope they come within a few hours drive of where I'm at!
Bono: Hey man... how you doin' out there tonight? Chaa.... *crowd roars* Bono: I wanna talk about... somethin'... very close t'my heart, man... *crowd roars* Bono: I wanna talk aboat... Cleeeer Chann'l. *crowd sorta roars* Bono: I jus' wanna saaaaaaay.... oooh yeah.... that they'rrre... EVIL, man. *crowd does nothing* Bono: But... chaaa... y'know, man, we gotta thank'm. 'Cause every Cleeeer Chann'l steh-shun that has anythin' cloose to a rock fuhrmat? They play U2 on th' hour, evry hour!! *Crowd roars!!* Bono: This next one y'might remembrrrrr from'r album "Pop..."
That's pretty accurate. Pop takes a lot a crap, but that was the first album of theirs I bought back when I was 15. I had listened to them casually for a long time, but then HMTMKMKM from the Batman Forever sountrack really got me into them. So when the new album came out, I went out and got it. It has some really good songs on it, I think, particularly Gone, Please (the single version is better), Staring at the Sun, Do you Feel Loved, If God Will Send His Angels, and Last Night On Earth. Anyways, if you see them live, you'd better hope they play Gone. It is an amazing song to hear them play live. It happens to be one of their favorites to play along with Until the End of the World.
I wish they'd do a 'retro' tour. They would only play songs from Boy, October, War, and The Unforgettable Fire. Bono would grow his spiked mullet back, The Edge would bring back his Explorer, Adam would bring back his fro, and Larry....well, Larry hasn't changed so he would just be the same. They would start each show with Gloria. Bono would bring out the white flag during Sunday Bloody Sunday after introducing it by saying "this song is not a rebel song, this song is Sunday....Bloody Sunday!" They would do a 20 minute version of Bullet the Blue Sky with Bono preaching about every political topic that comes to mind in the middle of the song while The Edge makes his Explorer scream with his slide and delay mixed with a lot of feedback. Then they would end every show with 40 and walk off one at a time while the crowd sings "how loooooooong, to sing this soooooong!" That would be a show I'd go to no matter how much the tickets were.
There you go. Although they were my favorite band of the 80s, I haven't paid too much attention to their post-Rattle and Hum releases. The one and only time I saw them was in '87. My tickets were at the very top row of the Summit. That was a great concert.
Actually, I think Edge uses a Fender Strat for Bullet the Blue Sky. Anyways, check out my sig, it's from Rattle and Hum.
