Newest 'superband': Singer from Queens of the Stone Age (Josh Homme), Drummer from Nirvana (Dave Grohl) and Bass Player from Led Zeppelin (John Paul Jones). Very nice sound. Entire album is $3 bucks on Amazon Goldbox today only.
I saw them in concert in January...they were pretty impressive. John Paul Jones is something else. It was a real privilege to see him.
Its sad, this kind of stuff is right up my alley but I just cant really get into the vocals. Same goes for QTSA (obviously).
their austin city limits show was great. pbs is streaming the whole thing here... http://video.pbs.org/video/1397479116/
In other news, there is this new super group called Temple of the Dog which rocks! I'm j/k, but this album has been out for five months.
Yes, been enjoying this one for a good while now. Thanks for the link to the show though, I'm looking forward to having time to watch that. I think the vocals are pretty good, but then I like a lot of what QotSA did. There are parts/lyrics/vocals that I like better than others, but overall a solid effort to bring this group together on something good. It's a good sound... nothing groundbreakingly new... somewhat retro with a hint of a new edge here and there. Kinda reminds me of Raconteurs in that it's not cutting edge in too many ways, but it just sounds good for the most part. JPJ is awesome and really brings a dimension to the tracks that a lot of music lacks today, I think. Groehl is just great on this as well. Really pushes the boundaries considering the music.
Yes, but this album hasn't been available for $3 until now, thank you very much. And why did you have to bring up Temple of the Dog? I miss Mother Love Bone and Andrew Wood. I'm gonna have to listen to Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns now and think what could have been.....
Never said it was new. Also, never said they were 'new', which is a very subjective term anyway. I said they were the newest "superband".
