Family of Elliott Smith plans posthumous album Singer-songwriter Elliott Smith's final studio album is expected to be released this fall, the late musician's father tells a Web site dedicated to Smith's music. "We are beginning the final mixing and production phase in mid-May and are planning for a September or October release," Gary Smith writes on www.sweetadeline.net. The father says the family can no longer afford to maintain Smith's recording studio, so they are looking for a buyer for the entire studio so that the equipment will remain together. Smith's death last October from stab wounds to the chest was initially ruled a suicide, but the Los Angeles County coroner's office later said an investigation could not rule out that he might have been killed by someone else.
I saw this in the Chronicle this morning and immediately emailed it to a friend. Looking forward to buying this CD. I didn't know that they were considering the possibility of murder. My understanding is that you generally don't see people committing suicide by stabbing themselves in the chest.
wow, elliot was truly a musician's musician. can't wait for the cd to be released. for some wierd reason, it feels worse to think that he was murdered instead of killing himself.
I haven;t been into his last couple of records, but I may check this out because that last single he released on Suicide Squeez was great. Hughe psych influence. I prefer the old stripped down Elliot with just him and his guitar.
