Noticed today that The Cult have released a new album, their first studio one since 2001. This album, called "Born Into This" is from what I read an all-out ballsy rock album and is very similar to such great Cult albums like "Sonic Temple", "Electric", and "Love". So, I was wondering if anyone had picked this one up and what they thought of it (TheFreak?).

Also, Springsteen has released a new album as well and this one is with the E Street Band (only the 2nd one with them since "Born In the USA") in "Magic". Anyone have that one? Is it worth picking up?

Meanwhile, I continue to wait out Neil Young's latest studio release, "Chrome Dreams II" which will be released to the public on the 16th of this month.

I love the new Springsteen album. With "The Rising" he tried to modernize the E Street Band and it sounded too polished and like a middle of the road record. On "Magic" Bruce turns back time and this sounds like something he would have released in his hey day. Bruce also lets the vocals loose a little more on this one. Personally i think its his best album since "Born In the USA". Honestly it is one of those albums you can listen to from beginning to end.

    A few of my favorites

    Radio Nowhere
    Livin In The Future
    Gypsy Biker

I picked up the "Savage Edition" of The Cult's BORN INTO THIS on Tuesday & I give it an A-

It's definitely NOT like Sonic Temple or Electric OR Love. Do you like the song, "The Witch?" It's alot like that.

HEAVY bass riffs, & electronic treatments, with Ian sounding as good as ever. It's more like the self-titled "GOAT" album than anything else. That, & Ian's solo album, SPIRIT, LIGHT, SPEED.

& that's why I like it so much.

I thought BG&E was a snoozefest, though I didn't hate it. Just didn't hold up for me, & I've been into these guys since Dreamtime.

    Just my Opinion.

They's playing The House Of Blues at Disney in Novemeber. This album is making me buy a ticket. I hope they play some songs from this record, & it's not the same show they always play (with a predictable setlist.)

Any TRUE Cult fan will dig it. If you only like them because of Edie (Ciao Baby) or Fire Woman, you'll be disappointed.

The Witch is great. That's encouraging. And I LOVE their s/t album. One of the most underrated albums of the 90s.

Haven't really listened to Ian's solo that many times; did you ever get the Holy Barbarians album? I always liked it better than S/L/S.

Also, what is the "Savage Edition"?

Went to a Cult concert a couple of years ago. It was awesome. Mainly because they stuck to their songs from the albums mentioned above. Now, if only RHCP would do that.

I love that Holy Barbarians album! I don't play it very often, but it's solid, imo.

Um ... be forewarned people, there IS a ballad on this new one, & depending on your mood, it's quite possibly the worst Cult song of all-time. :D

The thing is though, it's not a "conventional" ballad. Kinda weird ... weird lyrics. Here's a sample:

"You're a wild thing ... you do wild things." I LOATHED it at first, but I even think that's kinda good now.

The "Savage Edition" is a double-discer version of the Born Into This, with FIVE extra songs. Two being stripped-down demos of songs on the regular release. Plus, they give you a sticker. lol I REALLY wanted that sticker!

I think I paid like, $4 more than what the single disc release cost. I think it's worth it.

I may also add that I prefer the production of YOUTH from Killing Joke, as opposed to Bob Rock. Refreshing. Rock did do the self-titled album, but I think he got lucky there. That was Ian's baby. Wasn't too thrilled with the layering of Beyond Good & Evil, or even Sonic Temple.

Youth has worked with The Verve and a few other bands, & I like his style.

For me, this new Cult album will hold up over time like s/t GOAT album.

    Really? Now i'm curious...

And what is up with the different versions of the albums? Is one version a demo and the other post production?

What about if you only like them because of Love and Electric?

Radio Nowhere is a great track. Saw Springsteen do it on the Today show a week ago.

Saw The Cult here in NY a few months back and they were awesome.

Marked difference from the last time I saw them years ago at The Summit (yes, The Summit), and Lenny Kravitz opened & blew them away (Ian drunk, sound issues, etc).

They're playing in Houston this month I think.

I don't see how you at least wouldn't like Sonic Temple. That's a little weird.

The "Rare Cult" boxed set has the first version of "Electric", before Rick Rubin took over and made it more like AC/DC - it sorta sounds more like "Love". Anyone else have it? I think it's interesting, at the least.

    lol

Well, if you stuck by The Cult during the jump from LOVE to ELECTRIC, & didn't sequester yourself in your bedroom listening to Balaam & The Angel or The Mission UK instead, I think it's safe to say you'll dig this one.

Heavy bass, bruh. Bass driven riffs, with Duffy taking a backseat. Ian & the bass dominate. It doesn't sound like AC/DC, so I beg to differ about comparisons to ELECTRIC.

Doesn't mean that it lacks the rock though.

Too bad THE DOORS OF The 21st Century never released any stuff with Ian. I was looking forward to that. Doubt it'll see release now that he's jumped ship back to the Cult.

That's an import that's been out since the 80's. I think it was called "The Manor Sessions" and had around 5 Electric songs that were in the style of Love. I haven't heard it in many years. I remember liking it though.

Yeah, I have that. PEACE was the title of Electric before Rubin dried out the sound, & arrangements.

"Zap City" is one of my favorite Cult songs, & that came from those sessions. Had it for years before that box set came out. It was a B-Side of 'Lil Devil.

Paid an un-GODly amount for a Manor Sessions import back in the early 90's. Has like 5 or 6 Manor Sessions (PEACE) tracks.

Those "Rare Cult" boxes are selling for mucho dinero on e-bay. Glad I got mine when I did. Out of print, I believe.

There's a song on there called "Bhadisatva", or something, that is freaking GREAT.

And The Witch is fantastic. I can't say that enough. That song should have been huge.

Heck, don't take my word for it:
