i liked both bands mentioned way before they were ever that popular. and i continue to. they havent gotten annoying yet to me for some reason.

I like the article, and I guess I need to learn to deal with the Williamsburg crowd. There are so many rich kids living there, playing at living the bohemian life, that I sometimes want to throw up. They do support good music, most of the time, but their pretense, and affectations are so annoying, that it is hard for me stomach it.

I'm only in NY a couple of times a year these days, so it isn't too bad. It was just beginning to get really bad in Williamsburg when I left.

that's a different point. mine is that these kids are passionate about music. deck and the other 60's warriors may wax nostalgic about the glory days but i'll tell you what. here in new york, the music scene is insane. how many good bands are from brooklyn nowadays versus 15 years ago? the music scene sucked when i moved here. hell. austin's music scene was way better then. now, HOLY ****. it's the 60's all over again and i love it.

Yeah, but the problem to me is bands like Arcade Fire suck. I see nothing original about them. Give me Texas punk funk over that boring crap any day.

Not really. Bands like Arcade Fire are the reason why. I just like bands that are ****ed up I guess. Something like Brown Whornet at least was original. JW Americana here in Houston is neato. How "new" can rock and roll get? I can't get into 18 years old making music trying to be hip and cool. I'm not going to make myself like anything just to try and keep up with the youngins. Mostly its just fads and scenes and not music people are caring about. I'm sure NY has tons of cool bands. The rockabilly scene there seems pretty cool. An old friend of mine drums for a band up there called Kickstart. They seem cool but whatever. Its only rock and roll but I like it (when people don't take it so seriously).

it's not about keeping up with the youngins, it's about being excited by music. you are too judgemental imo. sure, there are always people that follow trends "to be cool" but there are lot of people, myself included, that think arcade fire are incredible and speaking for our times in a very poignant way. what don't you like about them? ignore the hype, yes it's irritating, give them another try.

I just did on You Tube. I ****** hate it. Any of those bands with hair covering one eye makes me want to puke.

Absolutely. That guy is grabbing on to whatever is popular to keep his name fresh. He has been doing it forever. I have more respect for artists who turn down his "collaborations" to see them for what they are.

Fake means pretentious. That's why I put the dicks link up there. They had a song called fake bands and it seemed appropriate. You can listen to it there to get a better idea.

Let's do a head to head.

Which band is the pretentious fluff?

    Brown Whornet

    or

    Arcade Fire

sorry if i am not impressed with this stuff. Like I said I'm sure NY has a lot of cool stuff but this aint one of them.

Brown Whornet's Radio Ablum is one the most greatest contributions to music ever created. seriously. my band played a few shows with them in the late 90s and early 2000s. they rule. and by rule i mean dominate your a$$.

You have got to be kidding me. Bowie has been ahead of the curve for most of his career. Mr. M, you just exposed yourself, with all due respect.

Bowie has been riding other peoples coattails for a long time. Look how be brought Klaus Nomi up on SNl in '79 with him to make Nomi's style his. Then he dumped him after he got what he need out of him. Never talked to him again. The guy is a sham.

I think the state of indie rock has never been higher these days. It just takes some effort to find these bands, but the payoff is great when you do.

thegary and peleincubus- What do you think of The National's new album?

They are opening for Arcade Fire on their tour.
