Was wondering if any of you could direct me to some good music message boards. I cannot seem to find any that are too great, most are either empty or are just not very insightful. Thanks for any help

Maybe better yet, a link directly to Manny's profile?

I was thinking of adding something about Manny, but that would have made it obvious.

Can you be a little more specific? Are you looking for musician boards, boards for music fans, downloading, equipment, local bands, specific styles of music...?

One thing to keep in mind is that this BBS is rather unique. There are few bulletin boards on the net that have this level of participation, so don't be shocked if the average board isn't as active. Few are.

Just general music discussion, more specifically rock/alternative bands, not really into equipment, dont play any instruments. Just for a music fan to browse I guess

Flyer, Jeff is probably right.... In regards to discussion of (and not reviews which Amazon has plenty of) music and bands, this bbs is probably amongst (or at least was) the best.

Something that might entertain you is yahoo's music format. Not a discussion forum but a place to build your own radio staion (first heard of it hear a while back). I started building my station last week (and while it's confusing at first) after a while you pick up on some very good songs and bands based on your likes.

BTW, The New York Dolls are coming here to San Diego soon and thought I would check them out. I know Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan are dead, so who are these guys? I think maybe UT Weezer and a couple others caught them at SXSW?

http://pulsemusic.proboards48.com/index.cgi - Pulse Music Board. Lots of discussion divided by pretty specific categories. Most of us migrated from the old forums that used to be on the official site of Radio & Records. There are a few obsessed fans of certain artists, but there's also a lot of reasonable and cool people (except for their political views ;))

i spend a lot of time on a widespread panic BBS at panicfreaks.org, although that doesn't really seem like what you're looking for.

nancies.org is a dave matthews band BBS, but it also has a pretty active general music forum. i used to go there a lot, but i've lot interest in it.

This is probably not what pops into y'all's heads when you think of "music", so it's a little off topic, but rather than starting my own thread:

do you know of any classical music or musician's discussion boards? Either traditional "classical" music, or band nerd type stuff...

You could start with my girlfriend's site on myspace.com. It requires registration and linking to "friends" who all have their own little board, and so becomes a bit parochial, but when you filter out the fanboys (or fangirls) artists you know link to other local artists you know or want to know. It seems to be a good combination of message board & networking device.

The best place by far for pure knowledge and interlinking is http://www.allmusic.com. It's not a place for posting things, but it's great for following new musical associations, either by association or style, or what band members went on to do. I never would have heard of Neutral Milk Hotel or remembered all the cool obscure Shoegazer albums I listened to back in the day, like the Spooky album by Lush or the song Only Shallow by My Bloody Valentine, which I really loved when in college, but somehow managed to completely forget in 10 years.

The Drummer Cafe is the best drum/percussion site on the net. Mostly for kit players but there's a forum for percussionists too.
