Any advice from the fellow clutchfans brethren?

I used to just mess with my friend's guitar back in the days , but nothing ever serious. But now I really want to make it a hobby for me.

played for 2 yrs, stopped playing, and will start playing again now that i will have time. Its a great and worthwhile hobby.

Electric or acoustic? Either way dont get a cheap ass guitar. They osund like **** and you are less likely to stick with it.

I am very much interested in playing the bass

Now all we need is a drummer

And awesome girl fans to hoola hoop while we play

    And a keg of beer.
    And a singer, maybe
    And a van

I say pick up the Piano and learn how to read music. Then pick up the guitar.

Or you could pick up the bass guitar, and learn how to read music because of the similarities.

I just think you should learn to read music as well as reading internet tablature, and have a **** load of fun.

For example, find both the tablature and the music sheet for some of your favorite songs, maybe a little pop/punk, or pop rock/blues if you wanna start simple, hell mark what notes are on the guitar if you have to. Then learn.

    I 100% unequivocally recommend Rocksmith 2014.

I knew absolutely nothing about guitar when I began playing the original and now I can play through several songs without issue. I couldn't learn from any other method previously, and this worked I can't say enough positive things about it. It's not a perfect piece of software, but for what it does it's absolutely perfect.

I learned when I was younger. Taught myself. Almost never play anymore but glad I know how.

    1. Buy a relatively cheap acoustic
    2. Learn basic major chords
    3. Learn how to play simple songs with said chords
    4. Learn more complex chords
    5. Learn more complex songs/solos

This is what I did. You really don't need to pay for any lessons or dvds in this day and age

Great sites to help you along the way:

ultimateguitar.com -gives you the chords to millions of songs
chordfind.com -gives you the fingering for any chord

I second what NachbarFTW said. Also once you learn some simple chords play with other people. There are lot of open jams and if you do some research you can probably find one that caters to people of all levels.

My advice would be, if you're serious about sticking with it, to spend a little more up front for a better guitar, as there's no measure for how discouraging a low quality guitar can be to a beginner when he/she is serious about improving.

I might have a Paul Reed Smith 2006 Semi Hollow for sale if interested. Barely even touched, special edition only made for a few months...but since you're new I'm pretty sure it would be out of your price range.

I so regret ever selling that guitar. I changed the pickups and added so much stuff to it...played like a beauty but I stopped playing and someone made an outrageous offer for it.

How much would you sell it for?

Honestly I have no idea what it's worth right now? I don't even think it has any scratches as I just couldn't play it. I'm looking to get a Gretsch pretty soon.
