I've never been able to find a forum and a site that covered music that interests me. I've pretty much done my damage with punk, ska and rock like Tool and Pantera. Where to go to hear about good alternative/indie rock bands? I had never listened to Modest Mouse until last week's SNL. They're great. Some other more recent bands I'm listening to are the Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yas, White Stripes, Jimmy Eats World, Mendoza Line, Mosquitos, New Pornographers, Spoon, Coldplay, Walkmen, Ted Leo and the Pharmcists...etc.
Has anyone around hear heard of The Mars Volta? I found a four song Live EP on my campus network and thought it was veeery intriguing, so I picked up their first full length CD, Del-loused in the Comatorium and I'm in love, if you like very trippy atmospheric rock with extended solos and such check it out...
Yeah, I have their full-length. The band was formed by two guys that used to be in At the Drive-In until they broke up. Used to be fairly big in the emocore realm, but I actually like the Mars Volta better.
the same two guys put out a record under the name defacto whilst ATDI was still together. really cool spaced out dub. the record was called megaton shotblast (i think) and greg m - sound like www.pitchforkmedia.com is the site for you, you little indie rocker. the reviews can be downright horrible at times, but they do a good job of posting news updates.
Jimmy Eat World's new Album "Futures" is beautiful. If you liked that, be sure to check out their album before Bleed American, called Clarity. Great stuff, one of my favorite bands.
