What are some of your favorite covers?

    Mine:

"(You're So) Physical" - NIN (original by Adam Ant)
"Black Steel" - Tricky (original by Public Enemy)
"Purple Haze" - The Cure (original by Jimi Hendrix Experience)
"All Along the Watchtower" - Jimi Hendrix Experience (original by Bob Dylan)
"Hallelujah" - Jeff Buckley (original by Leonard Cohen)
"Joan of Arc" - Jennifer Warnes (original by Leonard Cohen)
"Eight Miles High" - Roxy Music (original by The Byrds)
"Landslide" - Smashing Pumpkins (original by Fleetwood Mac)

I don't think I can include Bowie's version of "China Girl" since he co-wrote the song with Iggy Pop; however, Iggy's version did appear first.

Todd Rundgren's "Faithful" album years ago had all covers on one side that were each awesome note-for-note recreations of: If 6 was 9, Good Vibrations, Strawberry Fields, Rain, You Go Your Way I'll Go Mine. Worth checking out.

"I'll be there" (Jackson 5) - Mariah Carey

One of the greatest concerts moments ever was at a Yes concert I attended back in the 80's. During the encore they covered Jimi's "Purple Haze". That was freakin' amazing.

Bridge Over Troubled Water - Aretha Franklin (orig. by Simon & Garfunkel)
Hazy Shade of Winter - Bangles (orig. by Simon & Garfunkel)
I Put A Spell on You - C.C.R. (orig. by Screaming Jay Hawkins)
Summertime - Billy Stewart (orig. by George & Ira Gershwin) This ranks right up there with All Along the Watchtower by Hendrix for sounding nothing like the original. Stewart's singing is nothing short of brilliant or off the f!@#ing wall.
Sweet Jane - Cowboy Junkies (orig. by Velvet Underground)
On Broadway - George Benson(album version) (orig. by The Drifters)
Don't Play That Song - Aretha Franklin (orig. by Ben E. King)

    YES!

I collect alot of covers. A blog that specializes in covers called "Copy, Right?" always has some fun stuff.

    http://copycommaright.blogspot.com/

    Tomorrow - Rivers Cuomo
    Dopeman - Less Than Jake
99 Red Balloons - Angry Salad (Actually alot of covers of this song are good)
    Unforgiven - Apocalyptica
    Hotel California - Gypsy Kings
I Shot The Sheriff - Eric Clapton (I worked with the guy who recorded it and I heard some great stories about the recording session of this song)
Darling Nikki - Foo Fighters, Asylum Street Spankers also cover this superbly.
Almost all of the Hayseed Dixie & Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies covers
    Paint It Black - Modettes
Gin and Juice - A Newfound Glory
    Paranoid - Ruder Than You
    Burnin' Love - The Porkers
Hungry Like The Wolf - Reel Big Fish
Take On Me - Reel Big Fish
Marijuanaville - David Allen Coe (Does this count as a cover?)

Guess I was in a Ska mood today...

Great song. The copy of it that I have is live from a Dutch radio show they played a set on. It was a promotional disc sent out to radio stations to promote the "Come On Feel The Lemonheads" album.

i love cover tunes. why do they get a bad rap in rock while it's normal for country, jazz and blues artists to do "standards".

There was a tribute to Jimi Hendrix (Stone Free) that came out 12 years ago. Most of the songs were done very well.

    ICE-T - "Hey Joe"
    Clapton - "Stone Free"
    Buddy Guy - "Red House"

There are other very good covers. This album stood out when I saw the thread title.
