Bring back Soundgarden. http://www.tmz.com/2007/02/16/cornell-no-longer-an-audioslave/ Cornell No Longer an Audioslave Posted Feb 16th 2007 12:38PM by TMZ Staff The former Soundgarden frontman has permanently exited the "supergroup," and the breakup wasn't pretty. "Due to irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences, I am permanently leaving the band Audioslave." The band's bust-up was hardly a surprise, as fellow Audioslaves Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk recently reunited with former Rage Against the Machine singer, Zack de la Rocha. During a Reuters interview last year, Cornell hinted that all was not well; "Musicians aren't the kind of people who concentrate or worry about what the other guy thinks." Cornell, curiously described as "an acrimonious artist" in the statement announcing his split, also announced that his solo album, "Carry On," would be in stores on May 1 on the Suretone/Interscope label. The album includes a cover of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean." Audioslave's reps at Epic Records could not immediately be reached for comment.
They made good music, but I never really felt like Cornell went well with the instrumentals. One song would have Cornell trying to fit in with a Rage-like style, and the next would have the band holding back too much. Soundgarden = RATM = Sound Against The Ragegarden =
Never could stand Rage, though I loved Soundgarden's big, dumb bit of rock. I bartended a pair of Audioslave shows in 2002, two nights in a row, and was shocked that they played (I'm guessing, because I never bought/listened to the disc) their entire first album all the way through -- and no covers, jams, Soundgarden/Rage songs. Then, backstage after the show, I tripped and came down on Morello's (sp?) Achilles with my shoe and could have done some nasty stuff to it. Thankfully, he couldn't have been cooler about it. Other people have messed up my ankles after basketball game accidents, and I cursed them out. He was really cool about it, a nice guy. That said -- the entire album, and nothing else? For those who saw them later, did they open up a bit?
Man, that sucks; they were a solid band. True, sometimes they didn't always fit the best, but what they did produce was better than most of the stuff coming out in the past several years. I have all of their albums, and I think they're a rare good band since 2000. Soundgarden is my favorite of the three; it'd be amazing if they were to get back together. I really like Rage, too. No one does some of the things that Morello does with a guitar. It'd be really cool to see them produce another album also.
Chris Cornell, Rage Against the Machine, and Audioslave all suck, so this is irrelevant to me. And before any people with no musical taste out there chime in to refute this post, I don't care if you don't care.
i thought that when they put the last album out they said it was going to be their last one. i'm pretty sure they never toured for it either.
I love Cornell's voice and am a fan of his Soundgarden work. Badmoterfinger is awesome. I think the first Audioslave album was very good and had a lot of elements of Soundgarden in it. I was excited about that. Cochise is one rockin' tune. And great video! But with the second Audioslave album and continuing on with the third Audioslave album the band started to kind of move away from that straight ahead rock sound. It got kind of bland in some aspects and too "funky" in others. The guitar sound was solid on the first album but moved more to RATM in the last two. I didn't like the direction. And I wasn't a RATM fan. Cornell on his own is ok, but not great. He needs a guitarist that can push him to more rocking sounds.
I just hope that Audioslave is finished now. RATM is ok sometimes, but don't really seem fresh anymore.
this is a sad day, audioslave was my favorite band and i went to 2 of their concerts and they always mixed in some rage(killin in the name of, sleep now in the fire) and soundgarden(black hole sun, rusty cage)....it seems like cornell just got selfish and wanted to focus on his own career and musical goals, i hope this means rage gets back together though cause their concerts have got to be crazy
Apparently Cornell's quite the rock star. Bleached tips, several assistants, big contract riders, the whole thing.
