Is there a program or anyway to edit, for example, bits of 4 songs or audio into ONE track? I'm making a cd for a buddy and want to start with a couple of exerpts from other songs with my voice track in between (I'm working on an inside joke). I want the four pieces of audio to be contained in one track.

What's the best way to do this?

    Thanks,
    os

Wow, this could be really complicated or really simple. Let's see, I am trying to think of something free you could use. I use a software sequencer named cubase and another named sonar to edit music for films I make. I think that cakewalk makes a free barebones sequencer that you can download from their website. If you get ahold of a sequencer I can give you directions from there on how to edit the songs but get the program first.

There are actually many ways. Here are some:

1.Get Sonic Foundry - THis is a multitrack system where u can load different tracks of music or wav clips on top of each other and make it into 1 mp3 file.

2.Get Cool Edit Pro - Same as above but only lets you do WAV.

3.Use Windows Sound Recorder (Hardest way) - Open what clip you first wanna work with and choose whatever you want to be deleted after, and before the segments. Than, at the end insert all the segments in chronological order together. Very detailed procedure.

Acid costs money, Cool Edit Pro costs money, but they both have demos. If you can save in those demo's though is unknown cuz I have the full versions.

Here's exactly what I'm looking to do:

Start a track with one song...after a few seconds edit in a sound effect of a record needle scratching across the record...then I will add my voice followed by another song that will play completely out.

You definately want to use Acid or Cool Edit Pro. This is the easiest way because they allow you to put in 1 track, edit that in itself, and then put it another track, edit that, and etc etc. Go to their websites to see pics. I think acid is SonicFoundry.com

With Cool Edit Pro, I have started off with one song. It goes for about 1 minute. I then edit in another 'X' number of songs. I then add in the end to the first song. I can save it as an MP3 and then burn it to a regular CD.

It can definitely do what you ayou are trying to do.

I went to Best Buy and CompUSA and found no trace of Cool Edit Pro.

You can buy it and download it via their web site. Go to www.cooledit.com. Incidentally I use Cool Edit 2000 instead of Cool Edit Pro. 2000 will probably suit your needs ($69.00).
