Don't know how I came upon this and I am no music buff, but I thought I'd share this with you music and, more specifically, guitar enthusiasts : The 100 Greatest Guitar Solos Spoiler Well? Do you agree? Based on what little I know about music (don't hate, Manny, ima_drummer or RocketMan Tex), I think it's fair. No?
It's a pretty mediocre song but Joe Perry's 3 minute guitar solo on "Amazing" is absolutely ridiculous. It starts at 3:30. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xGbOL6nCdkY&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xGbOL6nCdkY&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

my first thought was GnR's November Rain. damn, that was beautiful, especially when you see Slash walk out the church with the guitar. that's still ingrained in my mind.
The list is pretty solid. But I've always thought the Stairway solo on How the West was Won is much better than the one on IV.
These lists are always silly. 76. Cinnamon Girl-Neil Young I think it's a great song and all, but a great guitar solo?
Good list, but several omissions that could definitely replace some of what is on there: 1. Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad- Derek and the Dominoes- this is the true "great solo" song off that album. I guarantee you that anyone who actually has listened to this song (not skipped over it to get to Layla) will rate it top 10 easily- Eric Clapton and Duane Allman at their peak, at the same time. I rate it #3 all time after Stairway to Heaven and Eruption 2. Touch and Go- The Cars. The Cars weren't really guitar-driven past Candy-O, but Elliott Easton created some of the best solos ever- You're All I've Got Tonight, Running To You, Tonight She Comes, Shake It Up, etc. Hum those solos in your head and you know what I'm talking about. Touch and Go is the best among several all-time classics. 3. Prince- Let's Go Crazy- the obvious. How could you not put this on there? Maybe cause it's too short? Possibly. Nevertheless, great stuff.
Exactly!! I should have said: How could you not put this in there? Maybe cause it's too short? Possibly. Nevertheless, excellent song and solo- great stuff comes out when you stick it in the boombox and play with the knobs.
this is probably my favorite solo not on the list. solo starts around 1:49. and the end solo at 3:50s pretty cool too in my opinion. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/R2poqYvWsyU&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/R2poqYvWsyU&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
The one on IV is elegant and classic, but if you throw in live zep, there's plenty that blow it away. The version on How the West was Won is probably my favorite 3-4 minutes of guitar period. Bonham is on fire on that track as well.
Working man is a great solo for it's time, but it isn't even close to Lifeson's best solo. This just shows you that a list that asks the general populous will get you in the neighborhood, but won't necessarily show you what's best. I'm with Rip in that these things are just usually too subjective to be "right" or "wrong" and thus they are silly, but it's an interesting list nevertheless. I will say that Cinnamon Girl is awesome, and the one note solo is reason enough to vote it in as it just feels good, but the finale just sounds like it's made of awesome. Sometimes it's just the little things, for me anyway. I was impressed at some of the less popular songs/bands that made the list with work that deserved it, but overall, just a respectful nod to most there.
The fact that Rush is only listed once, and at 94 really detracts from the list's credibility for me.
Freebird Comfortably Numb November Rain Sweet child o mine Stairway to heaven Mr Crowley (rhandyroads/ozzy osbourne) Iron Maiden (fear of the dark/aces high/powerslave) Beat it/Eruption by EVH Buckethead nottingham lace Nightrain
amen. I could go on and on, but gotta run (league tonight)....as much as it hurts me not to participate in music threads anymore...especially one that is right up my alley.
