i was reading in a thread earlier about eddie griffin and its funny how people say that it is impossible to gain weight so fast... they were sayin that eddie griffin was or could be close to 7ft and could weigh 240... that is possible... because it is a proven fact that muscle weighs 3 times more than fat... so it might not look as if a person weighs that much but it could be so if they are built or phyiscally in shape.. gaining 20 pounds is nothing when you're lifting weights.....
Actually muscle and fat weigh the same. The only difference is that muscle is denser than fat. Does a pound of muscle weigh more than a pound of fat? A pound is a pound.
I'll take that bet, I've done it before. You've been listening to too much Jim Rome. For people who haven't worked out recently, have the proper technique, as well as sufficient motivation, this is definately an atainable goal. The best results from weight training come in the first 6 months.
Dude, this is a heavy topic. Muscle weighs more than fat! I'm holding my head in my hands as we "speak". This is a nice change from "I hate Ming! No! I love Ming! Wait, now I hate him... no, I lov... Oh, nevermind."
think about pigs.. I think it will be very easy to increase 20 pounds in 3 months. Replace one arm with stainless steel?
Ofcourse, its possible to gain 20 lbs in 3 months.. but 20 lbs of MUSCLE is NOT EASY. You basically need to be a full time bodybuilder to have a shot at it. I have friends on the UT Powerlifting team and they lift rediculous amounts of weight a day and still dont gain that much. Even with the right training, diet, motivation, etc, it is still impossible for certain individuals to gain that much muscle. There are other factors such as genetics. Im sure Eddie is taking in weight gainer/protein shakes. A high calorie, high protein diet will help him gain muscle if hes training hard. I hope he works hard and gains 10 pounds of muscle. I would rather him take 3 years to gain 30 pounds than 1 offseason.
You can but the person has to be kinda abnormally skinny to start out with. I friend who was a college wrestler, so he was cutting weight. He competed in the 130 lb range, when he stopped competing and started lifting, he gained 50 lbs (mostly muscle) in 6 months.
I couldn't gain 20 pounds without steroids in 3 months, but Eddie could. The man has a huge frame and 20 pounds could be spread all over that body. Some in his legs, some in is middle, some in his arms. Impossible is an ignorant mans way of saying he doesn't understand how. P.S. If it is later found out that Eddie has taken drugs may my post please be deleted in order to save face.
Oh man I love weight-gain threads. My goal for the summer has been to put on at least 10 lbs. I'm 16, 5'8", about 110 lbs. That's abnormally skinny to me. It's SO HARD for me to put on pounds. I'm trying to eat a lot.....hasn't been working so far. Should I start weight-training, or is it too early? Please enlighten this young one.
me myself the reason i started this thread becuz kinda like rocketkid.. i am 16, 5'10, and weigh 140.... i started this new DIET that i got off musclesurf.com and i was weighing 120-125 ......that was really skinny... and i've only been doing this program for 1 and half months... i'll try to find the link... it just says that you have to watch what you eat and lift hard... which is why i think it is very very easy for him to do this.....
It is worth remembering that power lifting and body building are mutually exclusive. Successful training for each is radically different from a sets and reps standpoint. I also think you should consider age, gender, height, ethnicity, and individual genetics before you attempt to define the maximum amount of muscle mass gain per time period. While it is true that there is an upper limit, this is to some degree a theoretical limit. Remember, a generation ago it was not thought possible that a person could run a mile in under 4 minutes. There are probably many fit posters here who can come close to that today. It may be difficult for you or one of your 6' tall friends to gain 10 - 20 #'s of muscle mass, but Griifins' skeletal structure is much larger.
Exactly!! A cubic inch of muscle weighs more than a cubic inch of fat. This is because muscle is much more dense than fat.
How much weight did Dunleavy gain this season? Wasn't it 25 pounds of muscle? I doubt Griffin's already put on that much weight, but there's no reason he couldn't be up to 240/245 by the time the season starts if he applies himself.
