Anyone see this? She is accused of tying her husband to the bed, stabbing him 193 times, burying him in the backyard...and claiming self defense?

Jurors Seated In 'Buried Husband' Trial
Wife Claims Husband's Abuse Drove Her To Kill Him

    UPDATED: 5:27 pm CST February 23, 2004

HOUSTON -- A panel of 12 jurors was seated Monday for the trial of a woman who admitted to stabbing her husband to death and then burying him in the family's yard in January 2003.

Susan Wright, 27, went into a rage and was out-of-touch with reality when she killed her husband Jeffrey Wright, 34, by stabbing him nearly 200 times and partially burying his body in a back patio area of the family's northwest Harris County home, according to her attorneys. Wright said that her husband's abuse drove her to kill him.

Seven men and five women were picked for the jury panel.

Jurors were asked the following questions, and were eliminated if they answered yes to either of them.
Would your verdict be affected by gruesome photographs?
Would you be affected by knowing this trial will be broadcast on national television?

Up until Monday, Wright had been out of jail on a $30,000 bond, and was allowed to continue working her job and have supervised weekend visits with her young children.

News2Houston reported that defense attorneys planned to argue the case as battered-wife's syndrome, and that they planned to tell jurors that Wright's husband, Jeffrey, punched and kicked his wife and their oldest son.

"This incident has been very traumatic on her and the fact that she was charged with murder has been very difficult. We are looking forward to vindicating her in this trial," Davis said.

Prosecutors said she tied him to a bed and stabbed him all over his body, including his eyes, face and groin area.

The state plans to bring the couple's bed into the courtroom to show jurors the brutal way in which Jeffrey Wright was murdered.

The defense said it would present photographs or scars and bruises Wright allegedly suffered, as well as witness statements from relatives and friends who said they saw the injuries.

However, friends of Jeffrey Wright told News2Houston they were not aware of any abuse and described him as a loving father.

Prosecutors would not talk on camera Monday morning but said they would present dozens of witnesses that will present evidence that a murder conviction is deserved in this trial.

The couple's 5-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter are currently living with relatives in Austin.

If convicted, Wright faces from five years probation to life in prison.

The trial is expected to last two weeks.

She'd probably be better off going with the "I'm psychotic" defense.

    I'd believe her.

Are you talking about Neil Davis? I went to high school with him. He works for Dick DeGuerin now.
