I didn't watch the show, but with the innernets you can find the only real reason for tuning in, the spoofs/skits. Here's the first one I saw this morning, Tropic Thunder Viral Video:

I have NO IDEA WHY, but I actually watched this show last night. I couldn't sleep. Thought I'd just watch it to make fun of how irrelevant MTV has become.

I must say, the skit posted above had me laughing my ass off, along with all of Mike Myers bizarre (in a good way) video shorts. BTW, Dana Carvey joined him onstage for a Wayne's World reunion. That was pretty funny and brought back some good memories.

I'm sure someone else can find it, but Seth Rogan and some other guy actually pulled out a large bag of weed and smoked a joint on stage. Not sure if it was real or not, but MTV pulled the camera back as soon as he pulled out the bag. Pretty sure that wasn't staged either. I wonder if they'll edit out the whole segment on all the repeats...

    Wayne's World Reunion:

    <embed src="http://www.mtv.com/player/embed/wp/" width="400" height="330" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" FlashVars="CONFIG_URL=http://www.mtv.com/player/embed/wp/configuration.jhtml%3fid%3D1588375%26vid%3D237153&allowFullScreen=true" allowFullScreen="true" AllowScriptAccess="never" base="."></embed>

Seth Rogen and James Franco smoke a joint:

    <embed src="http://www.mtv.com/player/embed/wp/" width="400" height="330" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" FlashVars="CONFIG_URL=http://www.mtv.com/player/embed/wp/configuration.jhtml%3fvid%3D237417&allowFullScreen=true" allowFullScreen="true" AllowScriptAccess="never" base="."></embed>

When I was looking for it, I read an AP article where Franco says he's surprised they pulled the camera back because MTV gave them the script and the "props."

I saw some of it. I can't quite recall it ever being that raunchy. p*rn and weed is basically all I came away with. It seemed like MTV was trying to be cool when they know they are pretty uncool. Some of the audience didn't exactly look to comfortable during some of those skits. lol

Read the same thing about the Rogen Franco skit. I heard MTV gave them the props and OK to do it but then wanted to ditch it at the last minute.

I thought it was pretty good. The awards were crap....after all, MTV's audience is 12-year-old girls now. But the skits were awesome.

I wouldn't put it past them to orchestrate a "controversy" like this. I'm sure their ratings aren't what they used to be and there's no such thing as bad publicity.

I watched for the first time in 2-3 years and I gotta say I enjoyed it. I was hoping a big skit in the beginning like they usually do, but nothing other than the Mike Myers/Chris Brown dance off. I was pretty surprised that it was live, but saw last year was when they started doing it. They used to film it on a Sunday night and show it the following Thursday.

I was so happy to see the Wayne's World reunion, they still had it down pat like it was 14 years ago. Good to see them doing it together.

Interesting enough, that clip above isn't what they showed last night, as stated above, the zoomed out and you couldn't see what they were doing.

Anyone else (who was actually dumb enough to watch) catch the irony of Robert Downey Jr getting the award these guy presented? Talk about awkward....

I'm surprised Downey Jr. didn't run over there and bite Rogen's head off and take a bong hit from his skull.
