the 76ers sent Mutombo to New Jersey for Van Horn and MacCulloch. I think if we offered Cato & Taylor the 76ers would take it! that would lock us at #5 seed in the west. Mutombo, Yao Ming, Collier Griffin, .....Willis, .......Morris Thomas, ..Rice, ........Nachbar Mobley, ...Torres Francis, ...Norris, .....Madox why still no movement for the Rockets?
Why should we do moves? Shouldn't we wait and see our our team does first? Taylor could still end up good and we need Cato for Ming's adjustment. The only Rox trade I could predict is with KT, or one involving Shard. However, I would like to wait and see our team in action.
I don't understand you guys who keep saying "our team is good enough, that's see them in action first....." no team is "GOOD ENOUGH!" even the defending champion is trying to improve when they have chance. (Lakers traded for Kareem Rush, resigned their own FAs, and signed a few free agents already) when you see oppotunities you have to act and better hurry. you can't wait 'till you need to change to start looking something good- it's too late! it's good if Taylor is 100% back, but what if not? how do you deal him if he avg. 4pt 2reb and earn more than $7 mil. next year? even if he's healthy he's no better than K.T. and Griffin; so, why not move him? package him with Cato for an defensive-minded all star center who can play 2-3 years for us before Yao Ming developed why not? well it's too late for Mutombo anyway. but I just don't understant why there's some people satisfied w/ the current roster. we can't even make the playoff yet! even we make the playoff this year, I still hope the Rockets keep getting good players utill they are the Champion...again!
If we can improve ourselves, we should do it. But would this really do it? Personally, I feel Taylor is better than KT, especially as a starter. Mo has cruised along on skill alone, but last two seasons he started trying to improve himself. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see him last year. I also think he is better for the team than KT because he can hit a shot when Steve or Cat drive and dish. He also is bigger and won't be guarding guys 3 inches taller. I love KT too, but I feel Mo is better. And I think it is pretty safe to say Mo won't avg those numbers. If he does get injured, it happends. Players get injured all the time. I doubt he would get another serious injury. As for our roster, two years ago we barely missed the playoffs with a worse roster. No griff, nachbar, ming, or rice. As for last year, two of our starters were out for the season, and our superstar was out for about a third. No wonder we didn't make the playoffs. If we need to make a trade, we could wait a year and trade Rice. He has only 2 years left and teams want to free up their cap. And besides, what center is out there that we can get?
do you guys really read others' post? 1.) I'm not trying to argue that K.T. is better than Taylor! I'm saying that even if we traded Taylor we still have Griffin and K.T. 2.) I said "if we offered Cato & Taylor the 76ers would take it" because they take MacCulloch & Van Horn. 3.) you can always find excutes for not making the playoffs but it's 3 years in a row now! my point is even we can make the playoff this year we still need to improve ourself! Rashard, Mutombo, McDyess, K.G., Sczerbiak, Odom, Miles, Glen Robinson, Sprewell, Bonzi Wells, Keon Clark, Duncan, Hughes, Olowokandi, ..... any good player who's avelable I'll call it an opportunity. the Nets made the playoffs last year, won the eastern champion! I think they're still better than the Rockets this year and they know they still need to improve. I don't see why we can't make a move "IF" we can make ourself better?
Yeah, you said KT was better than Taylor if healthy. Our team is young. Cat, Steve,Nachbar,Griff, and Ming are all in their 20's, with the last three barely in their 20's. (Griff is 20.) These 5 will probably be our team S. lineup in a few years. Each player, even Mobley and Francis, can get better. Therefor, we don't need to make any BIG trades. We can improve without trades. Sure, we could trade Griff and Nachbar for Mcdyess, but would that help our team? No. Maybe for a season, but I'd rather win the finals than reach the playoffs. Also many players like Rashard and Odom could mess up our team. We don't need a star at each position. Ever here of Portland? Not to mention those guys would take money from Griff and Ming in the future. Our team only needs a few tweaking at certain areas, such as a back up SG. But we don't need to trade MO Taylor for Eddie jones to do that, btw.
ok you just rattled off names without thinking. you tell me how can get any of those players? sorry, i know it's a boring summer, but that should not make peoples' IQ's drop below normal.
1.) Griff and Nachbar for McDyess is NOT a good trade. that won't help our team and not cap-wised. I only said we could offer Cato & Taylor for Mutombo. I said we could afford trading Taylor because we still have equal (or more) talanted Griffin and K.T. and we could upgrade Cato to Mutombo. 2.) I'm not saying we need all those stars to win, but we need to find ways to improve our team. just ask yourself "IF" we could make the trade would it make our team better? 3.) Rashard and Odom could help our team if not cost too much to acquire them. 4.) the Blazers never have had "Stars at every position" they have 4 good players and a star player in Rasheed Wallace. they should had traded some of their good players for a real star like Mutombo or K.G., if they had Mutombo they'd won the title 3 years ago. 5.) Mobley, Nachbar, Griffin, and Yao are not "STARS" yet!
Well you said we should make a big trade. I figured you wanted one of the Superstars you listed. And who could we trade Taylor and Cato for that is like Mutombo? Even if we did, we would have a 6'7 Pf or a 20 yr old starting PF. Actually, Cato could end up like Mutombo, if he ever tried. (which I heard he is actually working out this off-season.) He is a good defender and may be a good backup to Ming. If there was a trade out there that would improve our team without taking too much from us, don't you think it would have already been done? I don't know about Odom, but Rashard may take a lot to acquire. Odom probably would too considering they trade Miles instead of Odom.(LA) Both would probably be more of a star than a role player. Nachbar would be a role player. Mobley could be consider a star since he avg about as many ppg as Finley, and Finley mad the Allstar team. The other 3 don't have to be stars, but they should be our future. Hopefully Ming and Griff will be allstars, but they don't have to be. There is no miracle trade out there that makes us better, without giving up too much. Our team is young. Be patient. *EDIT*BTW, if we did do the trade you suggested, and Mutombo got hurt, (since he is up there in age.) we would be left with a rookie in Ming, and a NBDL center in Collier. Cato would probably last better.
of course we could find ways to get them if the Rockets wanted to. - offer MCE to R. Lewis like Dallas did - trade Cato + Taylor for Mutombo (if MacCullch & Van Horns works) - N.Y. offered Sprewell + #7pick for #1 pick + Rice. they could help us acquire McDyess too. - I also heard another rumor on therocketguy.com that has K.G. to Houston. - Odom and #8 pick (could be C. Butler or A. Stoudmire) was offered for #1 pick - Clark, Wells, and Olowokandi are free agents and have not sign a contract yet! I'm not saying we SHOULD make these trades. but everything is possible. every GM is looking for "good deals" to happen. they all want to steal from the others. I'm just saying that we need to explore every oppotunities to improve our team. I don't know why go this far? at the begining I was just wondering if we could offer Cato+Taylor for Mutombo. to steddinotayto, I'm sorry if thinking this way is too difficult for your IQ. Let me know if you have other questions I'll try to answer them.
Shard= I read we contacted his agent, so we probably already did that. Happy? Mutombo=I answered this in my other post. Basically we become worse at PF, and a 36 year old center becomes our center. I won't talk about the other ones since you said we probably shouldn't do them, which I agree with. I would rather have Ming than Sprewell or Mcdyess and a pick. We also could not afford the free agents, BTW, and a sign and trade would probably cost us something. I think we should chill this year. Next year, we may make a big trade, especially with Rice or Taylor. Then Rice would only have 1 year left, and Griff would be ready to start.
1.) imo, our 6'7 pf and 20 yr old pf are all better than our 12pt, 6reb, no defense, overpaid, overweight pf (not metion the drug issue.) 2.) only a few Rockets fan would ever believe Cato "will end up like Mutombo" (remind me that a few years ago someone here said K.T. will end up like Sir Charles) 3.) Rashard may take alot to acquire, but if Dallas can get his consideration when offering the MCE why can't we? 4.) Clippers traded Miles instead of Odom because Miles has more trade value and the Cavs know it and asked for Miles. the Clippers would trade Odom before Miles if they could. 5.) Mobley scores alot but still not a star because this game has something more than scoring: Defense, size, rebounding, passing, team work, decision making, and winning.
I guess you didn't hear Taylor isn't overweight. Like I said earlier, Taylor is actually trying instead of going by on talent. Cato avg about 7 and 7 while Mutombo avg about 12 and 10 last year. 5 more ppg and 3 rpg, and voila! (DM had 1 bpg more also, not much.) Not to mention that Cato is also trying to get better this time. He has the tools, he just needed a "fire." (hopefully Ming.) Mobley got 5apg on a Iso offense, which still ranked him pretty high against the SG All-stars. And Wally made the All-star game, are you saying Wally is more of a star than Mobley? We may be able to get Rashard for the MCE, but he'll eventually want some more money. Can we afford to pay him and Griff and Ming? Same with Odom. And LA was looking for a PG. If we traded the 1 for odom, (with other things, obviosly) we wouldn't get Ming. I think we made out alright. And the Cavs knew Andre wouldn't stay because of the max thing, so they didn't necessarily hold all the chips. BTW, I'm going to sleep. I'll be happy to argue more tonight, though.
sorry but i think Lewis would not take the MCE. hush-hush deal would be there a la mo taylor. trade Cato + Taylor for Mutombo (if MacCullch & Van Horns works) well seeing how all the nets gave up was van horn (who cracks under pressure) and macculloch (who is passive and slow) what does that tell you about Mutombo's game and value that he has today?? - N.Y. offered Sprewell + #7pick for #1 pick + Rice. they could help us acquire McDyess too. sorry but having a non-superstar guard getting superstar money is the last thing we need. like i've said before, mobley (though i sometimes dislike his on court decisions) is by far the best value and best bang for the buck 2 guard in the league. why get spreewell when we have a decent 2 guard? and then why would we want mcdyess when 1) he demands max player money when 2) he's been hampered by injuries that (according to his style of play and position) could be costly down the road - Odom and #8 pick (could be C. Butler or A. Stoudmire) was offered for #1 pick this is one that i'll say that i would have been interested in. but there is no way in hell we trade the NUMBER ONE for a very good player and a pick. the number one has more value than that. if we had the #2 sure it would make sense but i would rather bank the organizations future on a 7-6 chinese player than a pretty good player with off court troubles and a pick that has less chance of having success to steddinotayto, I'm sorry if thinking this way is too difficult for your IQ. Let me know if you have other questions I'll try to answer them. nope no more questions and it wasn't too difficult. i just had to make sure i think like a teenage boy that has nothing better to do than to throw out insane ideas that would work only if the other teams says 'ok houston! we'll do that trade and we'll grab our ankles for you too!' instead of trying to look for players the rockets can trade for lets concentrate on players that the rockets might need/want like your odom proposal. spreewell? mutombo??? c'mon
Hard Rock: 6 posts in your own thread huh, trying to boost up some #'s? Anyways, who cares? We didn't trade for Mutombo so it's not a Rockets issue.
I also completely disagree with the thinking that "let's go with what we have and leave it like this." If you have the slightest opportunity to improve, you do it. If your team is a better team after the trade is done, then it's a good trade. It's that simple. If you improve, do it. If you don't, then don't do it. But the Mutombo trade doesn't put us in better shape. Mutombo would kill our attempts to play more up-tempo, just like he will kill the Nets this year (MARK my words). As a team on paper, we would be better. But you have to take into consideration that it's nto a good PR move. Mo T and Cato are the 2 hardest working Rockets this summer. More than Cat and Francis. That doesn't send a good message to people about how we treat our players. Also, KT will present a big problem in contract negotiations. Also, Mutombo makes too much money. Had we acquired him, we would be the last team he ever played for. Why? No one will trade for a 39 yr-old making $18M.
