Anybody else impressed by his defensive effort against the best damn forwards in the world??? 22 rebounds in 28 minutes. Cato couldn't get 22 rebounds in 28 games. So here's our options for the summer: (1)Go after Webber...he'll probably sign with NY or Orlando anyways, (2)Talk to Finley...he's not going anywhere. (3)SIGN MUTOMBO. Some say he's 38, I don't give a damn if he's 48. Anyone who plays that kind of D is worth a look. He doesn't demand the ball on offense. He'd take a helluva lotta pressure off of Mo T. to get boards, and he likes warm cities. Just a thought. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
I rather pay less and get someone alot better at that position. I think his name is Hakeem Olajuwon. ------------------ "Break off the block like Maurice Green" --- Steve Francis President of the Moochie Norris fan club.
Mutombo can't score but he is a defensive force. I would sign him in a heart beat because he would completly stop up the middle and make us a premier defensive team. However, he is listed as being 34! If we sign him he will only have a few years left. By the time Francis and Mobley mature as players and are ready to compete for the championship Mutombos skills will already be declining. I don't care if Olajuwon has had a few good games in a row he is not as good as Mutombo. Olajuwon was better than Mutombo but not any more. ------------------
I was going to come online and suggest we go after Mutombo myself. The guy showed heart last night. ------------------ Who's ya daddy?
It made me think of what the league would be like if all of the players in the league that SHOULD have played center but due to timing or coaching never hit the weight room hard enough actually matured into shot blocking, post playing big men. Kevin Garnett would probably be a center if he went to college for 4 years and bulked up in the process. Rasheed Wallace played center for North Carolina but doesn't for the Trailblazers. I'm not sure why other than the presence of Sabonis. Duncan would play center if it weren't for David Robinson. He'll probably never play center in the NBA. That is 3 good examples without scratching the surface. Think of Charles Jones (geez, that is my second mention of CJ in just a couple days) who was 6'-9" tall and held his own at center. You don't have to be be 7'-1" and weigh 280 lbs to play center well (although it helps). If there were more players in the league that knew how to get it done like Mutombo did yesterday.... ------------------
Could you imagine THIS team with a legit superstar rebounder and shot blocker? The Rockets can already put up decent scoring numbers, but with the fast breaks that the Mount could start...wow! ------------------ "We're growling more...I would not say it's a growl. It's not a purr either." -- Rudy T.
I think you want to think about that again. The dream gets 20 rebounds tonight. I dont care what you say, I rather have Hakeem than Mutombo. ------------------ "Break off the block like Maurice Green" --- Steve Francis President of the Moochie Norris fan club.
Mutombo is big and slow and couldn't score in a New Orleans Whorehouse. I don't care how many rebounds he grabs, because he will slow things down on the offensive end. Dikembe Mutombo cannot control a game like a rejuvenated Olajuwon can. ------------------ The Rockets will be the NBA champions. Believe.
Damn, Hakeem surprised the hell outta all of us. Now why hasn't he been playing like this all year? $hit, if he keeps this up then we'd be stupid not to give him an extension. Let's all keep our fingers crossed that Hakeem will continue to play well. As for Deke, imagine him playing alongside Dream. It would be like a senior version of the Twin Towers. What a way to go out. Remember Dream played with Sampson early in his career. What better way to end it alongside his African brother. It could be just like the All-African games which almost cost Hakeem his Olympic eligibility. Zaire and Nigeria joining forces to make the best shot-blocking tandem this side of the Congo. Damn, wouldn't that be sweet: Mutombo Olajuwon Taylor Mobley Francis ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
