I need a little computer help. I built my Mustangs club webpage using the MS Publisher 2002 at work. At home, I installed MS office that I received with my laptop in about 2001. When I tried to open the Publisher file at home, I got a "Can not open files from a differrent version of Publisher." Is there any way to get around this. I don't want to have to rebuild my webpage of what is up. I know the obvious answer is to get a copy of the Publisher that I use at work, but I don;t know if that's possible. Is there any way to make the files compatible?
I don't know about Publisher, but since it is a webpage the output somewhere should be HTML file ( a file with an .HTM or .HTML extension). Which means that Publisher (or FrontPage, which most Office users use) should be able to open that file. ...or like with Visio you can choose what version you want to "Save As". At home I have 2002 at scholl they have higher so I have to save it down at school so it is compatible at home and I have no problems. Also mentioned above most Office users use FrontPage which is just as easy as Word to learn and use. Or you can use NotePad,...
I think I'm going to just have to track down an updated copy of MS Office to get the updated program. Saving to an older program loses to many things. Thanks.
You can open an HTML page with any other program. Do you mean that you have an HTML file, or a .PUB file that EXPORTS to a WEBPAGE? I have PUBLISHER 2003 and COULD use it to do a webpage, but I would recommend a WYSIWYG editor as Dreamweaver (goes for as much as $99). Couldn't help you with the conflicting versions of PUBLISHER, but I can warn about using PUBLISHER, whcih is not a popular HTML editor, as neither is WORD or Corel's WordPerfect. I am more than certain that you could edit the HTML code that's at the top of the page, like so: <html xmlns:v="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" xmlns:dt="uuid:C2F41010-65B3-11d1-A29F-00AA00C14882" xmlns:b="urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeublisher" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"> <head> <meta http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"> <meta name=ProgId content=Publisher.Document> <meta name=Generator content="Microsoft Publisher 11"> <link rel=File-List href="Publication1_files/filelist.xml"> <!--[if !mso]> <style> v\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} b\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} .shape {behavior:url(#default#VML);} </style> <![endif]--><!--[if gte mso 9]><xml> <oocumentProperties> <o:Author>SwoLy-D</o:Author> <o:Version>11.5606</o:Version> </oocumentProperties> </xml> You may be able to get away with changing the "Version" and the "Generator" tags. Always back up your stuff before you experiment with advice from us. See if that helps.
Alternatives that you might consider. Free and the only investment is a download for each. HTML Kit Open Office
Yeah, I have a .pub file that I need to export, but it's from Publisher 2003, and I needed to drop it into a Publisher 2000. I've burned it to CD so it is backed up. I've been considering using a different program, but I haven't had the time to research any and then I would still have to rebuild the page. I think since it's just an amateur page, I'll just find a backup of office 2003 and install.
Bring up your publisher file at work. Do a File->Save As..., scroll down and select Publisher 2000 file.
If you're talking about finding a copy of Office 2003 that someone else already has on his or her computer, it won't work. There's an open source html editor based on Mozilla. It hasn't even reached 1.0 yet, but you might want to give it a try: www.nvu.com. It's completely free.
Nah, the school has a network license, so I can get a copy for office 2003 from them...I hope. Oopen source editor...does that mean it can read .pub files?
Did you try my suggestion? It will allow you to save your Publisher 2002 file in 2000 format so you can use it at home.
Oh yeah...sorry...forgot to respond. I tried that off of my laptop last night (which has pub 2002) but it froze up the system. I tried it at work today and same result. Apparently, there are things that the 2002 cannot "dumb down" to 2000.
Sorry...haven't had a chance to change it yet...I'm here at work. When I get home, I'll mess w/ it. Thanks.
