How does AC temperature (hi/low) and how fast the fans blow in your car affect MPG? Will a low (mildly cooling) AC and low fan speed make a significant difference over a high (coldest) AC and high fan speed? Does fan speed have a noticeable effect on MPG to start with?
There probably is an effect, but I don't know as it's all that great. I read somewhere once that driving with your windows down (thus increasing drag and making the vehicle less aerodynamic) has more of a negative effect than windows up with the A/C blowing. I don't know how true it is but it certainly makes sense.
Mythbusters did this test and found that at 35mph+ it saves more gas to drive with the windows up and the AC running than windows down. Below 35mph the air drag isn't very significant.
