Hey guys im moving here in the next week and was wondering what a good place would be to find a few boxes to move my stuff in. I went to layaway last night at wal-mart and asked them if they had any extra boxses and they looked at me like I was crazy. Does anyone know where I can find a few free boxses??? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Liquor stores is a good suggestion. Local bars will often have a ton of beer boxes as well, if you need a bunch around the same size (good if you have lots of books).
Jerry Stand up =========== When You're moving your whole world becomes boxes. That's all you think about is boxes. Boxes, where are there boxes? You just wander down the street going in and out of stores. Are there boxes here? Have you seen any boxes? I mean it's all you think about. You can't even talk to people because you can't concentrate. Shut up I'm looking for boxes. Just after a while you become like really into it you can smell them. You walk into a store. There's boxes here. Don't tell me you don't have boxes. Dammit, I can SMELL them. I'm like I'm obsessed. I love the smell of cardboard in the morning. You could be at a funeral. Everyone's mourning crying around, and your looking at the casket. That's a nice box Does anyone know where that guy got that box? When he's done with it do you think I could get that? it's got some nice handles on it. And that's what death is really. It's the last big move of your life. The hearse is like the van. The pale bearers are your close friends the only ones you could ask to help you with a big move like that. and the casket is that great perfect box you've been waiting for your whole life The only problem is, once you find it you're in it.
Did anyone mention liquor stores? When I was a poor student, that's where I (and everyone else) went for boxes. Then, a friend of mine invested in banker's boxes for a move and then gave all the boxes to me for my move. I've kept the banker's boxes ever since and they are great, even better than liquor store boxes. Their only two downsides are: (1) you can't go into a bank and ask for some, you have to actually pay for them; and (2) people will 'borrow' them from you and never give them back.
Liquor stores. Sams used to have boxes. Drive around the back lots of some of these big stores. I've always seen boxes there.
Where I work at Guitar Center on Westheimer, there is a dumpster that we only use for cardboard boxes just waiting to be pillaged. Have at it. It is on the side of the story off of Stoney Brook.
Liquor stores are your best bet. Warning: if you plan on keeping anything boxed for an extended period, BE SURE TO CHECK THE BOXES. I recently had the misfortune of discovering some sort of bugs had made colonies out of boxes of magazines I had in my closet. Nasty stuff...
I begin to wonder if all you dudes/dudettes who suggested Liquor Stores have either FREQUENTED liquor stores for their boxes or for their liquor. You drunk asses know you have NEVER moved. How does a woman hold her liquor?
A lot of big stores do this. It would be a good idea to try going to a grocery store or a furniture store depending on the size of the boxes you need.
I don't know where you could find HUGE boxes, but for medium sized boxes, check the front or back of sandwich stores like Subway or JimmyJohns (in Austin). When i was moving to and fro from school, I always used to get some Frito-Ly medium boxes they used to hold the combo size chips from them. Problem is you gotta tape em up because they already have "broken them down"
