I'm graduating in May from Ball State and will be waiting to ship out for the Peace Corps which will be anywhere from October to 2 years from now. My best friend is moving to New Orleans in May and invited me to come and essentially hang out to when ever I leave. So I will be in the New Orleans at the end of May and if I'm still around come next season you better believe I will be in Houston at the Toyota Center for a game or two.
From Indiana to New Orleans... that'll be a big adjustment to the humidity. And bring some bug repellent. Have fun! And yes, drive over to the TC for some games if you can, and definitely go to Hornets vs. Rockets games in NO!
Good luck. New Orleans is a great city. It gets a bad wrap for the crime, but you'll love it. Just don't wander around alone in dangerous neighborhoods. If you avoid places you shouldn't be, then you will be fine. You'll really miss to go cups once you leave too.
Hahaha yeah I've been to New Orleans twice before so I know my way around Bourbon and the French Quarter. If we end up living in the French Quarter I seriously doubt I will go to the other parts of the city much at all. As for the humidity, it won't bother me. I don't mind sweating. Its cold that really aggravates me.
NO is a great place to visit and if you know what you're doing, its ok to live. I took a college visit there when Tulane was recruiting me in hoops in 89. At the time, perry clark had just taken over a team on probation. My parents always let me see things for myself growing up. tulane is a private school, but on my visit, it was buck wild. For a dude that love wildness, it was even too wild for me. During those times, new orleans had a lot of corruption and murders. I didnt sign because it was a little too wild for me. I go there alot and its cool. The storm really took a lot out the city though.
