My wife just got a new job down in Florida and we are moving to the Tampa/St. Pete/ Clearwater area. It's a dream job for my wife and something that she can't pass up. Damn, I'll miss the mountains! I'm not leaving my job with the AP, as I'll still work here in ATL during football season, but my radio show will be defunct. We head down to the Florida house-hunting in a few weeks. I guess you can call me the Tampaslammer from now on. Any Rox fans down that way?

I have good friends in Valrico, just about 10-12 miles east of Tampa. I was just there a couple of weeks ago.

Watch out, Florida drivers are crazy, much crazier than Houston drivers.

    Enjoy the Yuengling.

They actually brew it there, too.

Even crazier than ATL drivers? No way. I'd rank Houston drivers a step below the ATL nutjobs. Besides, we've got people who want to commit suicide off overpasses!

My wife and her family are from Fort Lauderdale. You'll love South Florida. Never have to worry about being winter time. Just remember your a Rockets fan....don't let Shaq or SF turn into a Magic or Heat fan.

Probably an excellent time to snag some beachfront property cheap!

May need a little work though.

Yeah, if that hurricane would have jogged a bit north, it could have been a whole lot worse. We're going house hunting next week and I'm quite excited.

Tampa is actually northern Fla...great, fun city...Innisbrook is actually an unreal golf resort if you play...and Berns (maybe spelled burns) steakhouse is as good as any you will ever eat at...not to mention Mons Venus

Seriously, I've driven around bad drivers here in Houston, in Chicago, Austin, Dallas, Bay Area, and none of them come close to the horrible drivers I encountered in the entire West Palm Beach to Miami area. I know that's not where you're going, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were just as bad in Tampa.

Good luck to the wife on the new job.

Thanks....she's really excited about it and it's something she's wanted to do for a quite a while. I'll be careful in Tampa. We'd like to get some waterfront property with a boat dock and a nice garage.

We'll have to do it in Gulf Shores, because I will not know all the good fishing spots in Tampa/St. Pete, even by next summer. My Dad's family has a lifetime of fishing the waters around Mobile/Baldwin Counties.

I used to deliver auto parts in Tampa (all the way out to Valrico sometimes too!), and the drivers really never seemed that bad.

Of course, this may have been because I was the one driving like a lunatic.

bama, I'm sure you'll love the freak party scene in Ybor City. Actually, you won't - but it's definitely worth a visit.

Pensacola, Tallahassee, Jacksonville, (I-10 corridor) is northern Florida. .. not Tampa.

Tampa is central-western-penninsular Florida. And very South if you're living there. Especially compared to NJ. :p
