I'm looking to move to Seattle sometime in the beginning of May. I will be attending UW-Seattle and so I am definitely looking for a decently priced apartment as close to campus/North Seattle as I can get. Anyone familiar with the area? Any information on restaurants/apartments/other would be appreciated. I'm looking forward to the move, but am a bit apprehensive not knowing a whole ton about the area. Thanks in advance.
I interviewed for a couple of job's in Seattle a while back but decided to pass. The scenery is amazing up there. And while it rains more consistently in Seattle, total rainfall Houston is up there, too - and Seattle's summers are perfect. That said, I found the atmosphere of the city to be a little too elitist. Granted, I was mostly in downtown (we also drove out to Mt. Ranier and some other areas), but the downtown vibe is one which I found people in Seattle really think they are the coolest people on the planet. I've talked to some people who have lived in the area before and agree, and noted that Portland has a lot of what Seattle offers, but more of Houston's laid back vibe. Anyway, that didn't answer any of your questions at all, but it's all I could add to the thread. Seattle still seemed really cool, overall, though, so best of luck!
my sister lives there so I have been a number of times. She moved there right after college and lived in the Fremont area, which is an ok neighborhood for student types not far from UW, also there's a slightly nicer neighborhood called wallingford(?) that is nearby. If I was at UW I'd try to live there though I'm not sure what rent is like these days. As far as restaurants go, if you want to spend a lot of cash and have a great meal, there was an asian-fusion place called wild ginger downtown that was awesome a few years ago. On the cheaper end there are some regional fast food chains (Kidd Valley, and somoe drive up place I believe called Duke's) for burgers, fries & shakes etc. and your standard pizza/coffee shop places near UW campus. I'd actually love to live there myself but the job market is a b****.
And Whistler isn't much further from there, literally heaven on earth. But i think you are hinting at the abundance of sweet herb up there
My Seattle trip got cancelled this year, but here was the place I was most excited about visiting (It's run by Mario Batali's dad) http://www.salumicuredmeats.com/
