Guys, I need your help...I just accepted a job in Dallas in the Galleria area...

I've never lived there and would want to know which parts of town are the best places to be..I've heard of towns like Carollton (?), Doulbe Oak, but I'm just looking for an apartment in a good area...Also, any good ideas on nightlife would be appreciated...

    Thanks...

I always liked the Los Colinas area when I'd go up to the Byron Nelson.

You're close to some nice areas in Addison, Carrollton and Plano. If you go up the Tollway about 10 minutes or so from the Galleria, you can find some really nice places.

There's also some good stuff in that area as well. As far as Dallas goes, you could do much worse.

I know its not Houston, but I'm so happy to get back to Texas...Albuquerque, NM was tough and I know Dallas will be a lot better...

    I'll be there in 2 weeks...I can't wait...

I live in Plano near the Tollway and the George Bush. It's a nice area with several apartment complexes. You can go north of the Galleria up the Tollway and find some nice places/neighborhoods.

I liked Las Colinas, as well (and Valley Ranch), but you'd be committing yourself to the nightmare that is 635/LBJ to get to the Galleria area.

To me, Carrollton isn't as nice as the Preston/North Dallas corridor, and Double Oak is just now being built up (and I don't think it would be that convenient from there to the Galleria area).

Be careful! Plano is the heroin capital of the US.... Or at least it was a few years back.... MTV did a special on it. My friend's brother was on there.

I took a trip to Carrollton.
There were a lot of nice houses in a row.

Well, if you're not a Plano West High School student, you probably don't have to worry about it.

We have gone a few years now without a heroin death, and it's not like there's people peddling drugs on the street corner.

Plus, I think officially Baltimore is still the heroin capital of the U.S. The only reason it was such a big story is because there were a rash of heroin deaths by rich, white kids who seemed to have everything in the world (19 in the three years between 1996 and 1999, I believe).

Axl Rose's house in Malibu is the heroin capital of the universe.

It's dumb to bring up Heroin in this thread. But, since it was brought up, I agree with mrpaige in that this was nothing more than a bunch of rich Plano high school students who have money burning a hole in their pocket and were looking for escapes of reality and boredom. They got noticed because some of them died due to stupidity.

I would love to live in Plano. My brother lives there and I think it is a fantastic town. A lot of nice neighborhoods(from the areas I venture) and nice apartment complexes conveniently located. Plus, easy access to the Galleria area using the toll road. I would probably choose to live there if I had a job in the Dallas area.

rrj, welcome to Dallas. You'll get use to it. I like it much better than Houston. It's much cleaner up here and it feels a little more high class.

Like RM95 was saying, Plano, Carrollton, Lewisville, Highland Park, etc. are some good places to check out. Downtown area (West End and Deep Ellum) are pretty happening. Go down Belt Line if you in the mood for a nice restaurant.

Hey, maybe we can get together (along w/ HOOP-T, mrpaige, etc.) to watch the Rockets in the playoffs, Texans games, etc. Let me know if you're up for it.

Well, I lived in Houston for a long time (over 20+ years). Never saw any development for the city. It was just so polluted all the time, and being here in Dallas for the past 3 years....has been nice.

Welcome to Dallas. Enjoy the lack of humidity!

EDIT: Oops, guess you came from NM, not Houston
