My parents are moving to Charlotte next month, they are both Chinese born but been living in Europe for many years, their English skills are pretty bad, can they learn it quickly in their mid 50s?

I dont know anything about that city, is it a safe city?

The asian population there is like 5%, but how many Chineses? Is there a Chinatown? Chinese language Tv channel?

    Thanks for the advises!

    :)

They'll probably need some sort of satellite TV for a Chinese TV channel. I doubt Charlotte has a "China Town" per se.

Other than that I don't know much about Charlotte with regards to your questions.... but 5% of the population is not much in my opinion - at least not enough to have the side of town that Houston or San Francisco would call a China Town...

    Hope they like it. :)

Charlotte is a safe city. Quite scenic. Don't know much about the ethnic populations, but get ready to pay skyrocketing home prices. That is one of the few cities in the USA which have bypassed the housing recession and is booming. Bad news for new home buyers, but good news for sellers.

Thanks! I think they are just going to rent a apartment at the begining.

Charlotte is an awesome city. I lived there for about a year and would definitely, definitely go back. My kids live here in Houston and is the only reason I don't live there now. Downtown is really nice and clean with good restaurants and decent bars. You are only a couple of hours from the mountains and a couple of hours from the beach. If you like golf, you will be in heaven. There is great golf everywhere for a decent price. I lived on the north side of town in Huntersville and lived about 5 minutes from Lake Norman which is a great lake. I highly recommend that side of town. Since they finished the freeway expansion, the traffic to downtown is not bad at all. I think it took me 20 minutes from my house to get to work downtown at Wachovia. My only complaint was that the radio stations sucked big time. If you don't have XM or Sirius, get it soon.

Sorry but I don't know much about the Chinese population in Charlotte but I'm almost positive that there is not a Chinese TV station.

Don't worry, even though there might not be a big Chinese population, there are always going to be lots of Chinese food around ^_^

    They're everywhere, I tell you!

Charlotte is an great city. I've been to most cities between Charlotte and houston and I would say Charlotte would be the city I chose. A little too hot for my taste (i live in Asheville in the mountains). As far as ethnics, its your typical southern town. Food is pretty decent and tons of hot chicks. Housing is not too expensive, but its definately not houston prices. It is a good central point between beachs and mountains. There are only a couple traffic problems during rush hour, but nothing like houston.
