So as of this past weekend, I've been living out in BFE near Magnolia, in a 1300 sq. ft trailer/mobile home/manufactured home. I have to say, that trailer park stereotypes really do seem to be applicable (shirtless men working on their cars .....lots of drinking on front porches till late at night). Anyway, you don't realize how much crap you have until you move (and Ill have to move again in 4 months when the new place is complete). The move cost me twice as much as I had planned and took twice as long. We were working on moving out of the old place up till 10 am Friday (we started the Sat before). Things I like about country life so far: Its relatively quiet (for a trailer park at least) compared to where I lived. The air is definitely cleaner. Things I hate about country life so far: The 1 hour drive to my office in Stafford. The fact that EVERYTHING around here closes at 8 or 9. Near my old place, we had what seemed like 20 Walgreens within a few miles. Out here, the closest one is 20 mins away. Driving at night is very scary. Country roads have poor road markings and if you get someone coming the other way, you are blinded almost. Worst thing of course is, getting stuck behind slow pokes and having no way to get around them due to the winding roads out here. So whats the crappiest place you have lived? Any bad moving stories? BTW ...special thanks to a couple of BBS guys who helped me out on the move.
I grew up in Magnloia. My grandparents still live there. We lived off of 2978. What area are you moving?
We are west of there. Right near Nichols Sawmill and 1774. Will be moving in a few months to Butera and Nichols Sawmill.
One of my best friends growing up lived right there. I was in that area a few months ago & noticed some new construction in that area. We really enjoyed growing up out there. Is your wife still going to be working at KW over in T & C? That is the same office my wife works out of too.
I had a girlfriend in college whose sister was building a house out there at the time. She lived in a trailer next door to the land where they were building the house. I spent a lot of time out there. I remember it taking 20 minutes to get to the country store out there. Those roads went on forever before you got to your street and there were no street signs. People going the opposite way would always wave to you. Sounds great, codell. Tell the wife I said congrats. Only thing I wouldn't be able to handle is the commute. Anything more than a 30 minute drive to or from work is too much for me.
I'd have to say the crappiest place I've lived is Deer Park. I grew up there and for some reason my wife and I bought our first house there, and just moved out of it a few months ago. It would be a great place to raise a family, but not so good for a young married couple that likes to go out a lot. We got to the point that we hated everything about that town, whether justified or not.
The only warnings I can give you about country life are what I've learned from horror movies. 1. Don't go outside after dark. 2. If you hear a strange noise, it is NOT nothing. 3. When in a panic, your car will not start. 4. Just when you think everything is ok, something will kill you. 5. Don't ever have sex. Ok, those probably don't help, but you get the picture.
