When you goto a Movie . . . what is it that makes the movie GOOD or BAD? Snappy Dialogue? Unexpected Twists? Consistant story? Interesting subject matter? My interests are varied and so . .. I enjoy alot of movies. Alot that probably not alot of others would. . . . mainly because I take them for what they are One does not go into Underworld expecting Sheakespeare. by the same token . .. I generally don't like movies that seem to be built to be Oscar movies. . . overly pretentious garbage Rocket River
I hate it when movies have overly snappy dialogue. Like ppl clearly and unrealistically setting each other up for jokes that you can see from a mile away. I love when movies like no country for old men and fargo are pretty realistic. Not quite as boring as real life, but definietly not tyler perry either
My expectation depends on the genre, actors, director. EX: Ridley Scott- I expect a great, stylish action flick. Katherine Heigl- crappy chick flick (which I avoid). Sly Stallone- empty, fun kick-ass fest. Clint Eastwood- no-nonsense drama.
kind of hard to really say, since there's so many types and i think we all want different things from each....i think more than anything you want the acting to be believable, doesnt have to be award-winning stuff, even if it's a "stupid fun" type of movie you want the actors to appear genuinely stupid. As long as they can be believed then the story should appear real, not realistic, but real, know what i mean?
For me, a good portion of whether I like a film or not is based on the setting, ambience, and background. That is why I somehow like to like alot of M. Night movies even though a few of his films are not structurally sound. I also like alot of films based in NYC, Pacific NW, Alaska and Western Europe. Don't like films with settings in Asia, California or middle America.
That is interesting. I must admit . . if a Movie is not in LA or NY . . .it generally piques my interest a bit more. I am tired of those two cities being overly represented. Feel like I have seen it all in those cities. Rocket River
The two most important things for me are interesting characters and the ending. If they nail those, it is usually pretty good.
The most important thing for me is soundtrack, clearly. If I hear too much mainstream music in a movie, then I find it reprehensible.
Most important thing to me is if it entertains me and allows me to escape if but for a moment. No specific criteria really and each movie has it's own particular factors that make or break it. I can love many Micheal Bay films for completely different reasons than I would a Wes Anderson one.
For me, its Boston. I am sick and tired of hollywood always approaching it with the hard and gritty angle. Or maybe I am just sick and tired of Affleck/Damon...
I hate directors who decide, after the fact, to tell everyone that the main character is a replicant. It's a damnable outrage!
If I am watching a movie and get so into the movie that I forgot which actors I am watching instead recognize them as strictly characters then the movie has been a success.
i love moves that don't follow formulas, movies with imperfect, damaged characters, authentic dialogue, unique cinematography... Plot twists are a plus. I like movies like Eternal Sunshine, Garden State, Vanilla Sky, Memento, Lost in Translation, Requiem for a Dream, etc.
before I watch a film, I need to know of moestavern likes it or not. if he does, its probably a crappy movie.
I like futuristic and superhero movies. Comedy is a big plus... and also hot chicks with (lots of ) nudity. I used to like action sequences, but watching too much Jet Li as a kid kinda ruins today's action flicks.
