I was watching Saving Silverman the other day and I realized that no one ever talks about how hilarious this movie is. Very underrated in my opinion, what are some of the comedies you think don't get the recognition they deserve.

    Top 3.

    1.Saving Silverman
    2.Pee-Wee's Big Adventure
    3.Dumb and Dumber

Totally agree on Saving Silverman, thats a very underrated comedy. In fact I may have even made a thread about it once. Who knows.

I also think Joe Dirt is hilarious and How High has some truly hysterical moments. Those are a couple that most people think are stupid. I wouldn't say they are underrated, but they aren't as terrible as most people say. Sometimes I enjoy a comedy even more if it is just ridiculously stupid.

    there is only one...Zoolander :)
"Damn it's hansel, he is so hot right now."

I would also add Art School confidential. So many funny scenes in that movie. John malkovich's performance as professor sandiford was excellent.
"you know how many years it took me to paint like this?"

I wouldn't consider Dumb and Dumber as underrated. Everyone I know that likes Jim Carrey even a little bit claims that movie as their favorite of his comedies. Although I definitely echo the love for Saving Silverman. I almost didn't watch that movie because I don't care much for Jason Biggs or Amanda Peet for that matter, but Steve Zaughn and Jack Black went a LONG way towards making that movie great. And Biggs wasn't bad and Peet was surprisingly good (in that I hated her, which was what she was there for).

As for mine, I would say The Pacifier. Sure, it was sappy and corny to a degree, but I think Vin Diesel actually did a great job at being the funny fish out of water guy. Also, I always enjoyed Bringing Out the Dead as a dark comedy.

I hate the lead guy in the movie, whatever his name is, but Accepted was actually pretty funny.

YES. I forgot all about this movie. This movie, to me, was like so many other comedies that suffered greatly from poorly constructed trailers. I remember when the movie came out, the trailers all had stupid jokes in them and it looked like a run-of-the-mill unsuccessful comedy. But the reality was it was freaking hilarious and the best aspects and even the general TYPE of comedy that the movie had was not represented in the previews at all. Anyone that hasn't seen this movie, I highly recommend it.

It's been on TV a few times, but Wet Hot American Summer is still vastly underrated. It's still the funniest thing I've ever seen.

Kung Pow gets blasted alot for being too "stupid" but it's freaking hilarious.

I thought Dogma was absolutely hysterical, but I do not know that many people that have seen it. I highly recommend this movie. One of Kevin Smith's best.

Saving Silverman was pretty good.. Zahn and Black together was sometimes hilarious.

Pee Wee's first movie was an intersection of Tim Burton and PeeWee, which, yeah, probably does not get the attention it deserves as a comedy.

D&D was Farrelly Brothers, right? Nuff said there.

How do we define a movie which is 'underrated'? I could put a movie on the list that I have always loved and thought it was tremendously funny, and it might not have been 'underrated'. But we can probably come up with some general agreement - I would never put Animal House, or Young Frankenstein, or Something About Mary on this list, because there should be no way that those are underrated.

Maybe under-appreciated would work just as well.

Some movies from the top of my head: (in no particular order)

    Nothing But Trouble
    Bowfinger
    What About Bob?
    Wayne's World 2 (not 1, but 2)
    The Whole Nine Yards
    Team America: World Police
    Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
    The Ref
    Brain Candy
    Galaxy Quest
Life of Brian, Holy Grail & Meaning of Life
    A Fish Called Wanda
Corky Romano (yeah I said it)
    Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls

There are always going to be lots more..

However, the all-time most under-appreciated and under-rated comedy is, IMHO:

    Orgazmo

    Loved Wet Hot American Summer

I still don't think Kingpin gets the credit it is deserved. That movie was so damn funny but most people don't mention it. It was also without a doubt one of Bill Murray's finest performances. That Big Ern character was the best!

Dirty Work was also pretty good IMO

I would like to build a statue dedicated to Big Ern.

Dirty Work was good...but there was just something missing that kept it from hitting that homerun...probably due to Artie. Funny guy, but is in the worst movies ever.

    "Fudge, Packer?"

I've owned a copy for many years. I have a friend who knows the movie word-for-word, including all the songs. It's truly an amazing concept, especially when you consider it was basically Trey and Matt's "college project."

A couple of others mentioned Wet Hot American Summer. I totally agree on the brilliance of that film as well. Everything connected to The State rules...
