Even though the three movies progressively went down, I'm cool with this. I really enjoyed these movies. http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2011/jan/24/matrix-4-keanu-reeves-wachowski * Ben Child * guardian.co.uk, Monday 24 January 2011 12.17 GMT Keanu Reeves sees Matrix 4 and 5 on horizon, website claims Matrix star reportedly told London audience that Wachowski brothers have written two more instalments of sci-fi series When the credits rolled at the end of the third and supposedly final film in the Wachowski brothers' science fiction trilogy, most people assumed they had seen the last of The Matrix. Not so, according to star Keanu Reeves, who reportedly told a London audience that a fourth and fifth film may be in the works. US site Aintitcool.com says Reeves broke the news while speaking at the London School of Performing Arts to promote his new film, Henry's Crime. The site's correspondent writes: "He met the Wachowskis for lunch over Christmas and stated that they had completed work on a two-picture script treatment that would see him return to the world of the Matrix as Neo. "[He] says the brothers have met with Jim Cameron to discuss the pros and cons of 3D and are looking to deliver something which has never been seen again. Keanu stated that he still has an obligation to the fans to deliver a movie worthy of the title 'The Matrix' and he swears this time that the treatment will truly revolutionise the action genre like the first movie. [The] Wachowskis are working on a movie called Cloud Atlas at the moment, once that concludes they will talk again." The news comes as a surprise for two reasons: firstly, the final Matrix film, The Matrix Revolutions, rounded off the story arc fairly precisely, with the machines and humans having secured peace. Secondly, the final two films in the series are widely considered to have been failures, with Revolutions coming in for particular criticism. The films still managed to pull in more than $1bn at the global box office when combined, however. Since completing the series in 2003, the Wachowskis have directed only one film, anime-inspired flop Speed Racer. They have plans to bring a modern-day take on the legend of Robin Hood to the big screen. Cloud Atlas will be an adaptation of the 2004 David Mitchell novel, a series of six interlinked stories set in a variety of different eras, from the 19th century to the far future.
As a Matrix fan I'm happy at the chance of redemption. Hopefully the Wachowski's (no longer brothers...long story) are hungry and really try and make a great script.
What's the cliffnotes of the long story? lol Matrix 4 and 5 huh. Hmm... part of me would like to see some redemption for the way 2 and 3 worked out, but I don't know about 5 movies.
This would only work if it were prequels....otherwise, it's going to be trash. Keanu being involved sounds bad (not prequels)....but the movies did establish that there were a large number of Neos that came along before Neo. Still.....I smell disaster.
The sad thing is that like most people I loved the first Matrix. The other movies were so crappy that I can't really enjoy the first one anymore. That's too bad. I hate when that happens.
Reloaded was Citizen Kane compared to Revolutions. I walked out of the movie theater swearing I was so pissed off. It may have been the biggest movie let down that I've ever experienced.
If you guys enjoyed Tron Legacy which barely had any fighting scenes, then you'll love the Matrix movies...
I agree, animatrix kind of went into the backstory but i'd like to see a live action pre-equal with some decent actors.
I liked the sequels. They weren't sublimely good like the first one, but then again, how many movies really are that good? I can't think of five. My 5-year-old son loves the Speed Racer movie. It's a kid's movie...which is why it got panned, IMO. Anyway, I don't know how they would revisit the Matrix universe and make it seem as grand as the whole Neo saving most of humanity storyline, but I'll watch. They're pretty creative. And there is nothing wrong with seeing more of this:
I know I'm in the minority when I say I really even liked the second one. The action scenes in it were unbelievable. The plot however, did not compare to the first one. Nobody really knows what the hell happened in the third one. Even the action in it sucked for the most part.
The Wachowskis are going to end up like Lucas and just not know when to quit. Then again when people are going to shell out money for crap like Matrix Revolutions why not.
Knowing that, is it worth seeing? Also I thought most of Animatrix was pretty sweet, but The sequels tasted like Jar Jar!
It's really for young kids. Spritle and Chim-Chim are featured pretty prominently. There are lots of very, very bright colors. I thought they captured the feel of the show pretty well, to be honest. As an adult, I thought it was so-so. So for young kids and psychedelic drug users, it's a slam dunk. For adults, maybe if you're feeling bored and want to watch something different.
