The reviews have been mixed: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/jarhead/ I'm not in the mood for a war movie right now. I can turn on cable news when I feel the need.
I thought this was a really well made mediocre movie. In other words, the movie is filmed great and the actors put in great performances, but the story doesn't add up to make a great movie. I think a lot of people will be disappointed with it simply because the plot of the movie isn't intriguing. I don't know how closely this follows the memoir it's based on, but there are some really emotional scenes and the movie is about as good as it can possibly be everything considered....
A lot of people think its a "war film" but even though it's about war, the point of the movie isn't to show you some epic battle scene. It's just about soldiers. Particularly about the grunts in one of the shortest wars ever who found themselves with very little to do.
I saw it last night, I thought it was pretty good, showed what the soldiers went through and the acting was really good.
Yeah, funny how that is. I've been bombarded by its commercials and while it's a pretty montage, it doesn't show anywhere near enough to demonstrate that they aren't lil flashes from a bad movie. I think I'll just continue to watch the commercials and see if I'm interested when it becomes a rental. On the plus side, the lion, the witch and the wardrobe is growing ever so closer. I've been waiting on that one forever. The movies this year have sucked.
Exactly what I was thinking last night. I ended up watching Zorro instead of Jarhead, it was good for a few laughs.
I actually read the book and enjoyed it. I wonder if the movie would be as enjoyable. Please post your reviews, since I wont be able to view this weekend.
Goin to see it tonight...I love war movies, whether it be of the action-heavy Black Hawk Down/Saving Private Ryan variety or the slower paced, character driven The Thin Red Line style.
from what i heard, its less action and battle scenes and more of a cerebral approach, trying to get inside the psyche of the guys who are on the frontlines. sounds like it might be similar "the thin red line" in that respect. im trying to think of gulf war hollywood movies and all i can come up w/ is 3 kings and black hawk down. are there any others im missing? i thought both of those movies were fantastic.
I'm pretty sure Black Hawk Down takes place in Mogadishu Somalia, tho I haven't seen it Aeon Flux looks like it'll be pretty good http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&id=1808551930&cf=info
Well we didn't go see it so I guess I'll be readin reviews myself until we do.....or until I download the torrent.
