Elephant, http://www.elephantmovie.com/, comes out today. It was the Cannes Film Festival winner and someother awards-winner. From what I know its about High School teens that plan an attack on their high school (loosely based on Columbine). The trailer shows some kids that don't seen to fit into a common group. Review seem to be good and from what I know the makers just found kids and filmed it in a real high school. I think I'm going to buy it, but has anybody seen it yet..is it "good"?
I'm not sure it's worth buying. It may or may not be to your taste. I would not want to watch it twice. Many of the reviews mention that... slight spoilers the actors are just actual students from a high school and they had no script, they adlibbed the dialogue.
I think if you can appreciate Lost in Translation, there's a good chance you'll like Elephant. To me, Elephant comes across as a mix of Kids and Translation. The multiple lines of dialogue and subject matter is close to Kids, but is more subtle and contemplative like Translation. Interesting note for the music fans: I haven't seen Gus Van Sant's other films, but he's the guy that did the album photos for Blood Sugar Sex Magick and the Under the Bridge music vid.

it's another of Van Sant's experimental films. casey and affleck are given co-writing credits. two guys named Gerry get lost in the desert. very little dialogue, but beautiful visuals and long, patient shots.
Cool! I wanted to see Elephant in theatres, but never got the chance. To Die For was one of the best movies of the 90s, in my opinion.
I just finished watching it, it was a little "wierd". Probably wouldn't have bought it if I seen it before.
