The first trailer for the second 9/11 movie (directed by Oliver Stone) is online, but it's only available in German. But you don't really need to hear what they're saying cause the images tell the story. And if this trailer is any indication, this is gonna be one tearjerker of a movie, moreso than United 93 perhaps. After seeing the full trailers for that movie and catching the reviews, I do wanna see that one (probably on DVD). This one could be a must see in the theater for me though. I wasn't sure if these stories were ready to be told on film, but it looks like the directors are being respectfu and faithful to the events, which is all you can ask for. http://trailer.uip.de/worldtradecenter/trailer.html
It saddens me that some hollywood a**hole is going to get rich off a great american tragedy 5 years after the fact. I will never see a 9/11 movie unless 100% of the profits go to the families torn apart on september 11.
See I was thinkin the same thing too... but then you start to realize that every other art form has made millions upon millions of dollars off this tragedy and the subsequent patriotism that followed. Hollywood was the only outlet that did not use the events in their works. So then what time would it be ok for them to make these movies... 5 years, 10 years, never? If the profits should go to the families, should the profits from other War movies and tragedies go to their survivors. I guess it's a question each person has to answer and decide for themselves whether they're ready. I'll also add that if these films resembled in any way the travesty that was Pearl Harbor (the film), then I'd bocott them. But they do seem to be respecting the source material in trying to tell the story, because these are stories that need to be told, whether you think you're ready to listen or not.
You do know that the families all supported United 93, dont you? They wanted the story told. And its a great movie. I dont disagree that Stone is an a-hole, but I cannot figure out why everyone has to get on their high horse and judge a movie before they know anything about it. The movie is about the rescue of the last two rescue workers at the WTC...what if its inspiring and amazing?
There was a JFK assassination documentary where a bunch of historians just absolutely shredded Stone's movie and cited all of its inaccuracies. It was hillarious how shameless the guy was.
It would be foolish to think that Stone was the creator of such a story. It was much bigger that he is. He just re-hashed what was already printed in books with the use of actors and a camera.
But Hollywood isn't making money off of 9/11. United 93 bombed at the box office. Apparently people don't want to watch that kind of stuff when they go to the movies.
The movie's budget was 15 million and right now it has grossed 25 million and remains in the top 10. That's hardly a bomb. It won't make huge numbers cause many people aren't ready to see a movie like this. But clearly, some people are.
I'd see this and have seen United 93. I admit, there wasn't anything new in the movie that anybody doesn't know, but I was curious to see what the director's point of view in the movie. Was pretty powerful and give him props. Now, I need to rent the A&E version to see if its any different, which I doubt there is any.
I just hope it's not a one sided story and respect is given to the family and friends of those affected.
I bet it does even better on DVD, as people who did not want to see it in the theater will bring it home to see it.
Remember after 9-11 happened how they said nobody in Hollywood is going to try and make money off this? Didn't even take 5 years and we already have at least 3 movies that I know of dealing with the tragedy.
This movie looks better then United 93 and has more star power. I'm still not interested in seeing it though. I already know the outcome.
I'll get around to watching the 9/11 movie that's out right now, but I'll probably never watch one from Oliver Stone.
