http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/thechroniclesofriddick/ I think this is going to be the action hit of the summer. Spiderman 2 gets the close 2nd.
Looks cheesy imo, can't really tell if it's Van Helsing cheesy though. I didn't like the first one and thought it was extremely overrated. In my book, Vin Diesel is just a tiny notch above the Rock as far as action starness goes. And that's not praise. Not really sure if there's any summer movies that pique my interest this year.
I wish 'em luck, but I can't imagine it'll beat everything else. I can't believe Universal would spend $120 million (plus P&A) on a sequel to a movie that made less than $40 million. I probably won't see this one until cable, at best (I've actually not seen the first Pitch Black yet, so no guarantees I'll see the sequel at all).
Hmm. This is the first time I've seen anything on this movie. Guess I'm the only one that has any interest. That could be the Sci-Fi fan in me, I suppose; I don't care one way or the other about Diesel.
It looked pretty cool to me. I never saw the original... this is a sequel? I'll see it, although I'm not a Diesel fan. I'm a sucker for SF. edit: I think I just posted what you did, Rokkit. My bad.
I heard about this project a long while back, and was slightly interested, but since DT hates Vin Diesel with a passion, I don't think I'll be seeing this one till it hits HBO.
Vin Diesel has no acting range. (in his trademark "gritty" delivery) "But the busta kept me out of handcuffs!" -From the Fast and the Furious
We went into Pitch Black with low expectations and really liked it - Vin Diesel really made that movie. I want to rent it again and see if it's still as impressive now that I'm used to his acting style. Remember when Stallone came out and people thought that he was a good actor in Rocky? Of course it turned out that he was really good at expressing that one character - as we saw in Rocky II, III, IV, and Rambo I, II, III, etc. All the same, Chronicles of Riddick looks like it has a chance to be a good SciFi movie - let's hope enough money and thought went into it.
I really liked Pitch Black. I feel this new movie is just too grand a scale. It looks like a cheesy Star Trek sequel. What made Pitch Black great was the isolation, the limited characters, and of course Riddick was bad ass. I just dont like the direction of this new movie. With that said I will probably rent it once it comes out on video.
If an actor only has one character in his acting range, does it make the acting bad if the actor is casted as that one character? When I watch Pitch Black on DVD, I see Riddick. In every other movie with Vin that I've seen, the illusion is lost and I see Vin.
No. ...*thinks about Tom Cruise*...Yes I guess it depends on whether you like the character/actor? I go into a Jack Nicholson movie and *know* that he is going to play a crazy old guy. You know, part of the problem with big movies is that the character or role gets imprinted into the audience's head. So the next time we see the actor, we are watching through a filter and our brain is trying to do pattern matching instead of just enjoying the movie. Just as an example, could you ever see Jerry Seinfeld in a movie as someone other than Jerry Seinfeld?
