Has anyone seen a preview for this movie other than me? Ever since Gangs of New York, I've been a fan of Daniel Day-Lewis. The guy may be a little strange, but I think it is that eccentricity that plays into the roles he selects (and they are few). This movie looks like it could be his next "Bill the Butcher Cutting." Here is the IMDB link for it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0469494/
Might as well show the trailers. I like Day-Lewis. He's a great actor. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/37BwmU1Am1I"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/37BwmU1Am1I" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SYW2ltW5SPo"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SYW2ltW5SPo" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
When I first heard about this movie, I thought it was a spinoff from the Saw movies. My first impression: The character seems a little close to The Butcher character from Gangs of New York. Looks like a good cold, rainy Sunday on your couch movie.
They do indeed seem similar from the preview. But I'm sure that given Day-Lewis's propensity to only accept an acting role every 3 years, I'm sure he'll find some ways to throw some wrinkles into it.
I didn't pay much attention to the trailer before No Country, but the more I hear about this movie the more I'm getting pumped up. I've seen 2 of P. Anderson's movies before (Punch Drunk Love and Magnolia) and I really admired his work. Daniel Day Lewis + soundtrack by Jonny Greenwood + a story based on an Upton Sinclair's Oil! = finalsbound wants to see.
Not sure about the movie itself, but I can say that There Will Be Blood may be the coolest name for a movie EVER.
Y'all should check out the the New Yorker review! It is over the top, but now I can't wait to see this. comparisons to Olivier? But yeah, I think D D-Lewis may be at that level.
It took you till Gangs of New York to be a fan of Daniel Day Lewis? I've been a fan of his since seeing Last of the Mohicans when I was young. Daniel Day Lewis only does good movies, so odds are this one should be one to see.
Agree completely, plus the director comments. Apparently he's trying something even a little more ambitious and intense this time.
The trailer looked awesome. I think I can safely predict this part of the Academy Awards... Best Actor : Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will be Blood Best Supporting Actor : Javier Bardem, No Country for Old Men
Pretty much what I thought when I saw the preview for the first time in theaters a while back. No interest whatsoever in seeing this.
I'm honestly more bored in a theater sitting through some predictable action flick than I am during an intense psychological epic.
I actually prefer movies of that fashion too. I love movies that stir something up in my mind or in my heart (ie. Road To Perdition, Into The Wild, Reign Over Me, etc.). But this movie, from what I've seen, does not look interesting to me. Now if they fought over the oil with bazooks and or lazer guns...
