Just came back from watching this and WOW. This will surely compete for some Oscars this year. Oscar worthy performance by Viggo Mortensen! Absolutely brilliant! The kid who played his son was outstanding as well. A very heart moving movie, go see it now!

Saw it yesterday and I agree, incredibly bleak but extremely well made film. Viggo turns in another top notch performance that'll probably score him an Oscar nod.

It was the only enjoyable Cormac McCarthy book I ever read. I might go see it today.

Too bad it would require an X rating to make a good movie out of Blood Meridian. I'll see The Road on DVD eventually...

It looks really good from the previews, so good that it probably won't be nominated because instead of nominating the clear best picture of the year, something stupid like that new musical Nine will win.

...I'll probably watch the movie eventually. Viggo has had a pretty good streak these last few years.

I loved the book, so I'll hopefully see this next weekend. I was a little concerned with the atmosphere though; didn't seem as ashen of a world as the book suggests.

Good movie. Never read the book.

I was trying to figure out how they would end the movie without it being either completely corny or unbearable bleak. They pulled it off just perfect.

Just saw it over at River Oaks. It was good, but not academy award worthy imo. Maybe if they are in fact expanding how many movies are nominated.

In the movie, is the cataclysm still ambiguous?

Yes, it's not explained in the movie either.

Cool. For some reason I liked that about the book.

I'm kind of surprised it only got a 71% RT rating... that seems kind of low for a movie that should be an oscar contender. I wonder if it's a faithful adaptation, then why do so many critics dislike it (?)

Gladiator is a 70 something percent on RT and Gladiator obliterates garbage that comes out of Hollywood these days.

Ya'll totally hyped this movie up for me. =(

It was a decent movie, but not great by any means. I think for the $20MM budget it was good. The cinematography was pretty good and the movie was suspenseful but the ending felt like a cop out.

And the boy was so damn annoying. If I was the dad, I would have b**** slapped him a few times for sure.

It's a Cormac MaCarthy novel, he tends to cop out his endings.
