Looks freaking good, another Boston themed movie out this year. And, who can forget the Ward Vs Gatti Trilogy... <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1_zijS_UAtw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1_zijS_UAtw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UM0bpk6pSBw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UM0bpk6pSBw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
This was supposed to be directed by Darren Aronofsky (w/Damon and Cage) but he dropped out and did Black Swan. David O'Russell (Three Kings & Flirting with Disaster) took over. Very much looking forward to this one.
I remember after the Ward-Gotti I fight watching a repeat of some documentary on HBO which, looking it up, was High On Crack Street: Lost Lives in Lowell. It follows around three drug addicts, and one of them was the older brother, Dickie Ecklund. One of the saddest displays was watching Ecklund's mother try to raise bail money for him by putting on a videotape of Ecklund's loss to Sugar Ray Leonard at the local Y or Elks' Lodge. Selling tickets to people, all knowing where the money was going, all knowing that they were about to see him get his head beat in for ten rounds, all knowing that Ecklund would never be that good again, all knowing how his life was bound to turn out. It was made before Ward was famous, so there's little mention of him in the film, and it wasn't until the final reel that I made the connection to "Irish" Mickey Ward and his corner man, which just made the fact that Ecklund had pissed his life away all the more tragic. Ward ultimately became famous, but Ecklund could have had class, too. Can't wait for the film. (Wasn't Brad Pitt originally supposed to be Ecklund?)
Christian Bale has some serious dedication. Dropping and gaining weight on a whim. I remember him in The Machinist. He ate half an apple a day for that role. It can't be good for his body though.
I have a hard time watching boxing any more after seeing the Ward/Gotti trilogy. No one...absolutely no one had as much heart as those 2 did through 3 of the best fights I've ever seen. I will be watching this movie.
The Fighter <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/1_zijS_UAtw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/1_zijS_UAtw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> This movie actually looks really promising.

I wonder if this story is the same story The Dropkick Murphy's song "The Warrior's Code" is based off of? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPC0kTWaE7I And say hello to your muther..
Movie was Outstanding. Christian Bale has locked up the best supporting role as an actor. WHAT A PERFORMANCE
This is ridiculous, it's not out until 4th Feb in UK, and it's not coming out in HK! gotta wait for DVD release........
Movie was pretty good. Very entertaining. They did a good job of recreating the fights. I will say this though - there is no way in hell Mark Wahlberg is only 145 lbs.
