I just saw the trailer for this movie and it look interesting. I did a little bit of research and found out that this movie is based on a book by Fitzgerald, have anyone read it? I don't read that often but I'll def check this one out.
So far 17 positive and 4 negative reviews on rottentomatoes.com, and for what it's worth, here's what their five "Top Critic" reviewers each had to say... That last one is a bit lofty, isn't it?
I read it a long time ago, it was definitely an intriguing concept for a story. It was one of his short stories so reading it wouldn't take very long if you're interested in it. I'll be interested to see how it transfers to the big screen, Fitzgerald worked for a movie studio towards the end of his life and it seemed like a lot of his stories were written with movies in mind.
As I was walking home after seeing this. I realized... Spoiler This movie is Forrest Gump with different SFX.
It's an artsier less sappy Forrest Gump. It has that Gump like structure but Button feels less manipulative. I really love this movie.
several hours too long... only parts i like was the guy talking about how many times he was struck by lightning. that was hilarious.
Agreed. It was quite Gump-like, but with fewer "oh-you've-got-to-be-kidding" moments. Beautifully filmed, wonderful acting. The make-up and visual effects are fantastic. I thought it was very, very good. Should clean up, come Oscar time.
I have a feeling this is one of the most overrated movies of the year. Like American Beauty, I think in a few years people are going to wonder why they liked this movie so much.
It's funny you should say that since the guy who wrote the screenplay also wrote the screenplay for Forrest Gump. This movie only shares a premise with the original short story. You can read it here: http://xroads.virginia.edu/~HYPER/Fitzgerald/jazz/benjamin/benjamin1.htm Only 11 pages.
It's one thing if you just say you don't want to pay money to go to the movies, or that you're poor, or whatever...but to say that you won't "pay money to watch anything with Pitt" just seems stupid considering you're going out of your way to download it. You won't pay for it on some kind of ridiculous principal, as if Brad Pitt is beneath you, but stealing isn't.
Kevin Spacey was so overrated in that performance. Annette Bening was the best part of that movie. ...and seeing Thora Birch's t*tties.
