Thought there was a thread for this movie already, but I cant find it. Feel free to delete or merge this with it if there is one.

I got to see a screening of the new Star Trek last night and to put it simply, it is amazing. Spectacular. Whatever words describe awesomeness.

I wasnt ever a "Trekkie" or anything, but I enjoyed the Original Series as a kid (even if it is painful to watch now) and loved the movies. So it probably isnt a huge shock that I enjoyed the movie. But the fact that there were so many people there that said they didnt even like Sci-Fi and they really enjoyed the movie was impressive.

I am perfectly satisfied with the entire cast. Wasnt too nuts about Chekov at first in appearance, but he did the voice perfectly. Scotty was a hoot, too.

I wont get into spoilers, but there are plenty of things that pay homage to the original Trek.

Best movie of the year so far, In my opinion. Worth your time and money.

I'll be honest, the trailers scare the crap out of me. ( It is looking like a standard, bad action film with a lot of explosions.) But, I'm still going this weekend. :D

I think the trailers were done like that to reel in a lot of the younger crowd and Star Wars people that were never really into Trek.

    You wont be disappointed, dude.

I guess the critics love the explosions... doing very well on rotten tomatoes (80/85). Some critics are saying it's better than oscar nominated films...

Oh really, a movie about a military space ship has explosions in it?

So... the movie, based on a tv show about exploration and diplomacy, is now about a military space ship?

    Oh wait, that was snark.

    On the internet? no way.

Signs? That is a thread about decent films that could be done better. It is a decent film that could be done better.

it's funny how star trek is cool all of a sudden. even all the non-fans are getting into it. you can't be cool and go to this movie. it's just not possible. ;)

i wonder if they are going to do a TV series with this current cast? no doubt there will be another film after the box office tally is in.

Star Trek is sitting at 94% fresh at Rotten Tomatoes now (118 fresh, only 8 rotten)! That's freaking awesome!

By comparison, last year, Iron Man got 93% and Dark Knight got 94%. Heck, Slumdog Millionaire, best picture Oscar winner, got 94%.

I am absolutely stoked to see this now.

I saw it last night and I absolutely loved it. It has a 84 on Metacritic. That's 2 points higher than The Dark Knight and it's absolutely earned it.

Although if I think I was a Trekkie, I would be really pissed about how they wiped a clean slate with the whole time travel scenario. Leonard Nimoy was cool though.

I wouldn't say it was better than the Dark Knight...

but it was good. I think people hyped it up too much. Not as good as I was expecting... but it was good. I think Spock's love interest was unnecessary...
