Highly debatable, but I know I'm in the minority on this one. Michael Biehn vs Edward Furlong... Wut?
In the Tobey Maguire days, Spiderman 2 > Spiderman. Spiderman 2 is probably in my top 3 superhero movies.
Since Die Hard's legal people had to offer the lead role to Frank Sinatra because he had it as a clause that he would have to be offered the part in a sequel to the Detective(1968), Die Hard has to be considered a sequel to the Detective. Luckily he turned it down.
Dumb and Dumber Too - it embraced the silliness more and didn't have a melodramatic romance thing, which got old really quickly. Bad Boys 2 - took what the OG did and just made it bigger, better, funnier - way funnier even. Terminator 2 - similar to bad boys, just did everything the OG did but managed to top it. The biggest difference is it really brought out the human and relational aspect out, invoking emotion and empathy. I legitimately cried as a kid when Arnold went down at the very end. Home Alone 2 - again, took what the OG did and just made it even more of an adventure and for kids it was just one of THE staple movies that made you want to go to New York and be in that atmosphere around the holidays. Easily the more memorable scenes and quotable scenes and jokes to me.
The Road Warrior is the one that comes to mind. Mad Max was a fairly low budget Aussie production while the Road Warrior was an international hit. First Blood I think was a better movie but wasn’t as big of a hit as Rambo. Empire Strikes Back, The Dark Knight, and Wrath of Khan were series hitting their stride. In all three you got the feeling that the producers felt now that the introductions were over they could dig deeper into the characters and stories. Rocky II is like that too. For the James Bond series Goldfinger is a much better movie than Dr. No. The Silence of the Lambs is also an adaption of another book by the same author with Hannibal Lector, and another FBI profiler pursuing a serial killer. That was adapted into a movie in 1986.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier was much better than The First Avenger. The story and acting was much more interesting. I think they goes again to getting the preliminaries out of the way so you can dig into the story and characters more.
Nah. The novel Die Hard is based on is absolutely a sequel to the novel The Detective. The 2 movies have so little in common (i.e. nothing), and Die Hard has so little in common with the novel, that they're not even in the same film universe. The novel Silence of the Lambs is absolutely a sequel to the novel Red Dragon (initially filmed as Manhunter). The movie Silence of the Lambs is absolutely not a sequel to the movie Manhunter, though the movie Red Dragon is absolutely a prequel to Silence of the Lambs. It's like calling The Passion of the Christ a sequel to The Ten Commandments. Hope that clears things up.
