When wathcing a move there is hardly a scene that I cannot watch but I noticed other people around me have a hard time watching some movie scenes. My girlfriend has to turn the channel during the scene in "American History X" when Derek (Edward Norton) stomps the guys head on the curb of the street. A friend of mine has to turn the channel during the scene of "What's Love Got to Do With It" when Ike (Laurence Fishburne) rapes Tina (Angela Bassett) in the recording booth. I can't recall not being able to watch any particular film scene but it seems others do have problems watching them. Do any of you have these problems?
Man, when I read the thread title, the "Curb Stomp" was the very first thing that came to mind! Nasty. (Er, presumably.) Also, I tend to simply change the channel whenever the TV is showing some serious relationship strife or yelling or if I think there could be yelling. I've always despised being yelled at and just watching it on TV increases my stress level so I just turn it. One scene that comes to mind that I always skip in this fashion is the scene in Godfather II when his wife is telling him about her abortion and you can just see Pacino go quietly insane with rage before he lashes out. I guess it has to do with my own childhood (my dad had a REALLY loud voice), but... I just don't like watching that stuff.
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King the scene where the Arwin or Erwin, whatever, is trying to save her father in the field of battle from Sauron's dragon-riding demon where she says, "I am no man." *shiver* that scene was hard to watch.
Anything overly sentimental I will just mute if I'm at home. Not because I'm too manly or anything--I don't have a problem with tenderness or affection in film. Its soap opera sentimentality that irks me. There are infinite scenes to choose from so take your pick.
Curb Stomp has to be way up there. There are a lot of scenes in movies where it's hard to watch because you get so aggravated with the character, because it seems so easy to overcome their problems and that gets frustrating. Kinda like Deniro in Raging Bull.
I can't think of any recent ones, but when I was a kid, I always dreaded the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark when the peoples' faces melted off. I would watch, but I didn't like it. The same goes for the face peeling scene in Poltergeist.
The first one that came to mind for me was when Braveheart's wife gets her throat slit by the british captain. I just can't stand throat slitting in general, it makes me very uncomfortable and I always find myself clutching my throat when I see a movie scene like that.
Pulp Fiction - Ving Rhames and the Gimp Resevoir Dogs - all 398 n***a shouting scenes [my roommate in college brag on the d*mn movie for WEEKS I decided to watch it. . . and could barely look at him afterwards] I have a hard time watching someone embarrass themselves anything Fear Factor like Rocket River
Others that have already been mentioned The Curb-Serving in AHX... also the end where the kid gets shot, the way everything happens it just effects you for days. The Ear Scene in Reservior Dogs and the guy bleeding to death was extremely difficult to endure. and I'd like to add one of my own... The "Doggy Treats" Scene in Van Wilder will make anybody gag. I just can't watch that without wanting to hurl.
