    Go see this movie.

I liked the first one (and actually understood it after a few runs through it). Second was sub-par, too action-focused. But this one is just far and away better than either. It seems to combine the strengths of both and adds a nice emotional touch that was lacking in previous installments. J.J. Abrams was a perfect fit for this franchise and the performances were top notch all around. If this is a sign of things to come, then this summer is gonna rock.

I think summer blockbusters are cheesy. I saw MI3 tonight and nothings changed. Alamo Drafthouse played the whole Oprah clip and some of his other er... interesting moments. They completely turned the audience against him before the movie even started. It was great!

Phillip Seymore Hoffman was the bright spot though.

it wasn't my favorite movie ever or anything but i thought it was really good. after an initial setup, the action didn't let up the rest of the movie. and ving rhames character had some hilarious lines, especially one about his little sister.

has anyone consistently made good action/blockbuster movies the way cruise has throughout his career? i mean in terms of action movies it seems like he has almost no flops. maybe harrison ford.

judging by the rest of your post, i'm guessing you decided philip seymour hoffman was the bright spot before you even watched the movie.

I thought it was pretty solid as well. It got a little too shaky at the end, but leading up to it it was a good mix of tension and action. Well done.

no big deal...like an extended episode of alias (and i'm not just drawing that comparison because Abrams directed it)

    I like Harrison Ford but...

Firewall and Hollywood homicide are his recent films that come to mind. He really hasn't done anything too outstanding since Air Force One (K-19 was fairly decent though)

I was a little pissed; they didn't play the trailer on our print. But I saw it online and it didn't hype me up at all. I thought the thing was very poorly cut. It had moments where it felt like it was building up to something and then never did. Like when the Superman theme came in, I'm starting to feel it and then...nothing. And then all the main characters have me worried more than ever. Lois looks too young and just doesn't feel right. Spacey's Lex came off like Hackman's Lex. And Brandon Routhe, well he looks fine in the suit, but his lines came off a little flat. It looks like it has good action and I like the story, but that trailer does NOT make me wanna see it.

And this summer is shaping up to be pretty damn good. Kicking off with the excellent (my opinion) MI:III, then Poseidon, Da Vinci Code and X3 (still skeptical) before June even hits.

If you are an action w****, this film is for you. Really cool efx and good plot that kept moving. Just a fun Summer movie.

I hate Tom Cruise, but am a sucker for good action flicks. This one more than satisfies IMHO.

    $9.00 well spent.

The movie was pretty entertaining and Cruise and PSH both had good performances. I was a little disappointed with the very end, though.

    Here is why

    ********************* Spoiler Alert ***********************

They tied off the movie with them running out of the agency to their honeymoon with all the other MIF cats in the background whooping it up.
    CHEESY!
There was no secret message delivered by the stewardess on their honeymoon flight or by the lady at the ticket counter or anything like that or any of the other various ways he could have received one. It was like they were tying off the franchise.

oh well yeah those weren't good (at least HH wasn't, i haven't seen firewall), but i just meant before he got old and past his prime. 3 star wars, 3 indiana jones, those jack ryan movies, fugitive.

for some reason, i didn't really like X2 that much. it felt like they just had each main character take turns using their special powers and that was it. now that i don't like special effects and action, but it just didn't do it for me. but after seeing the X3 trailer, damn i wanna see that movie.

I might go see it, but I have a tough time getting past Tom Cruise and all his antics. Everytime I see him, I think of his appearance on Oprah.

It's easy to bash Tom Cruise right now, but I've seen 20 of his films, and I can honestly say that I've enjoyed every single one of them...well, except for Goldmember, but he only had a cameo in that one, so it doesn't count...

    MI:III
    War of the Worlds
    Collateral
    Last Samurai
    Minority Report
    Vanilla Sky
    MI:II
    Magnolia
    Eyes Wide Shut
    Jerry Maguire
    Mission Impossible
    Interview with the Vampire
    The Firm
    A Few Good Men
    Far and Away
    Days of Thunder
Born on the Fourth of July
    Rain Man
    Cocktail
    Color of Money
    Top Gun
    Legend
    All the Right Moves
    Risky Business
    Losin' It
    Outsiders
    Taps

That's a pretty impressive track record there. And his weakest titles came at the very beginning of his career. I can't think of many actors that have such consistent and sustained success as that; Tom Hanks is the only one that comes to mind.

Tom's BS doesn't get in the way of the movie. He may be an ass but he knows how to play an action hero. You know what it's going to be, and it is what you expect, it is a kickass action movie, a cool way to kill two hours. My only caveat is I'd reccomend only paying the twilight rate.

They showed the preview to Pirates Of The Carribean, it looks pretty godd too.

Nacho Libre looked as sweet as School Of Rock but should be good.

Saw it earlier today. I didn't like the first one because it was nothing like the TV show...never saw the 2nd one because I didn't like the 3rd one. But I went to see this one because all the reviews were pretty good. I must admit, I really enjoyed myself. Strictly viewed as an action flick, it was amazing. Constant action from the word go. Reminded me of Speed in that sense.

As a whole, it was still a pretty good movie. As others have pointed out, as silly as Cruise's **** is outside of movies, he knows how to bring once they start rolling, so I don't get distracted by that too much. I highly recommend this movie.

I agree. Cruise is an absolute freak, but I'd seen the first two of the series and went to see this one tonight at Alamo.

Like others have said, it was pure action from the jump. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is really good, as well as Cruise.

All in all not too shabby.
