It was pretty good. I thought Jamie Foxx carried Colin Farrell throughout the whole movie.

The only thing that pissed me off was that it didn't have a SINGLE boat chase scene in it! Come on, how can you have a Miami Vice movie without a boat chase scene?!?!?

I didn't watch it, but I enjoyed the promo thing they did on NBC 2 weekends ago - they showed the original 2 hour TV pilot mixed in with promo for the film. I forgot how good the show was.

i have a friend who said it was one of the 10 worst movies he's ever seen in a theater.

    i haven't seen it, though.

He was probably expecting some hardcore action movie, but that's not really Micheal Mann's forte. Like most Michael Mann movies, though, it was advertised as an action movie...

he said it was disjointed. that there wasn't much of a story to speak of. that he had a checklist of things to do...he did them..but never tied them together.

i love the city at night, wet asphalt and neon lights, so i'm a big michael mann fan. have been since i was a little kid. absolutely loved Heat! i'm sure i'll go check Miami Vice out.

i like how mann uses high def cameras to film his movies, it makes it look pretty sweet, especially night scenes.

The DV got old real quickly...set a unique climate for the film, but the tight, fast-moving shots felt cheap. The whole movie seemed raw, choppy, and poorly edited. For being HD (and a $150 million budget), it was like watching a downloaded torrent, or just slightly better than the $4 movies in Chinatown NY.

The music, especially in key scenes, was ATROCIOUS. I was expecting A LOT better, especially watching it in a state of the art theater (I believe the sentiment that it was probably the most disappointing movie I've seen in a theater).

Now the story itself was okay...problem is the cinematography distracted me from the dialogue. But that wasn't a problem. I doubt ANYONE could understand exactly what was going on. Didn't really matter though since it was obvious...honestly this could have been a silent movie and it would have worked just the same.

Foxx and Farrell in this film were the blandest characters I've ever come across. It's not like they were going over the top or anything, but both had ZERO personality. Foxx played the character well (but some comedy would have been nice). I do applaud Mann for how realistic this movie ended up being.

But Farrell??? What an awkward character. His facial expressions (along with that pseudo-cool p*rn stache) made it seem as if he had Tourette's. Will Ferrell would have been a better choice. Yeah, the Rocky Bobby guy.

Now for 146 minutes, there wasn't a lot of "down time" and it didn't move slow, but the story was dull. Do I think it should have been more like the TV show? No, not necessarilly, but it missed a lot.

If it weren't for that first scene at club Mansion, I would never have guessed this was filmed in Miami. Come on, if it's 'Miami Vice' you gotta use the city...SoBe, downtown, etc...it's false advertising without that. Half of the film took place in Haiti, Colombia, and Cuba (Dominican)...we get it...there are drugs there.

Overall it wasn't awful. I was just incredibly disappointed. I'll take Bad Boys II anyday over this one.

Of course I never sat through all of Collateral or even remember seeing Heat. From what I've read if you like Mann's movies, you'll probably enjoy this one.

I love the tv show. I actually record it. It's comfort tv to me. I'm scared the movie will piss me off. But it's definitely a "wait till cable" movie.

I loved it. Mann knows what I like and he gives to me in heavy doses. Im talking city shots, crazy night time colors, Audioslave, etc... I probably still like Heat, then Collateral, but this is a close 3rd. The character development was weak, dialogue was at a minimum. But still completely fulfilling and enjoyable.

The DV got old. His steady cam shoots needed a whole lot of work.

It looked cheap since it was DV and often times everything was out of focus. His action scenes felt really lackluster. Farrell choked on the character. Foxx gave no depth to the character. The plot trucked along but not really anything to feel or grab. Felt like a documentary on how to play an undercover cop.

Same here. I catch it on Sleuth whenever I can.

Of course, whenever a particular episode ends abruptly with no real closure, I'll find myself saying (while shaking a clenched fist in mock indignation) "Damn you Michael Mann!"

I watched it Saturday night and over all I say it's a good movie. Mann kind of over did his technical details part of this movie. The cast was good but some of the accents are so strong you can't tell what they are saying. You almost need some English subtitles to understand what's being said.

Could have had more action in it besides the sex and the gun fight in this movie is classic Michael Mann.

those of you who felt there could have been more action...did you see heat?? did you think the same thing about that???

(not that miami vice can boast deniro and pacino on the screen)

I thought Heat had a much more engaging plot than Miami Vice, and like you said, Deniro and Pacino just makes it that much better. Not to mention Val Kilmer and Micheal Madsen. The acting in Miami Vice doesn't even come close to Heat.

I'm glad I saw it by myself, because if you miss any of the dialogue it wouldn't make that much sense.

Jamie Foxx is probably the one of the best comics ever to be able to be believable in a dramtic role, other than Robin Williams and Richard Beltzer. I think he did a great job. Colin Farrell wasn't as belivable, his Irish accent showed up in critical places.

Remember Andy Garcia in The Untouchables (Yeah, I got'em...Take him)? There was a scene in the movie that was just as cool and reminded me of it.

To be honest I think that's the overall feel Mann was going for.

I personally liked it quite a bit but don't think it's for everybody and it's not what's being advertised.

If you wanna see lots of action set in Miami and surrounding areas go see Bad Boys 2
