I've heard rumors of the Magneto movie for a while, but this is the first article I've seen that verifies it, so I figure it deserves it's own thread now. I also heard that Ian McClellan will be the lead, but they will use CGI to de-age him.

Beast to be in Magneto movie

    Date: May 13, 2008

A Latinoreview Exclusive! The Beast is in Magneto!

While on a visit today to the creature effects shop for Hellboy II: The Golden Army I noticed some pictures that were lying around for other movies like Land of the Lost and of course, Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

But I also noticed a photograph of a young looking Beast leaping through the air. Not a drawing, although it could have been computer generated, but an actual photo.

    "What's this?"

"This is young Beast from the prequel they're gonna be doing. Magneto."

"Oh, ok." I replied, trying to act calm before my head exploded from seeing this picture. "So Beast is in Magneto, huh?"

    "Ya."

The picture showed a younger guy in the Beast getup leaping down. He was in the full blue costume with his long tail and you couldn't mistake him for anything other than Beast. The picture also had 'Magneto' written in the upper corner. Like I said, I was only able to see it for a few seconds, but it did not look like a computer rendered picture, it looked like an actor in full makeup. Nevertheless, Beast IS in the movie.

**UPDATE** EVERYONE keeps e-mailing me saying it's probably Nightcrawler and not Beast. He had a tail in the pic and the guy said it was Beast. He even looked like Beast right when I saw the picture, and I have the audio of him saying Beast and not Nightcrawler. Maybe he got them mixed up, but I'm only reporting what I was told and saw.

Unfortunately I couldn't take a picture of ANY of this stuff because there were a lot of drawings and photos from Land of the Lost there as well. But this Beast information is awesome. Who else will be in the Magneto film? What other younger X-Men could make an appearance and what role could The Beast have?

I hope they do a lot of action scenes in space. What did they call Magnetos space station, Asteroid M? Let's see how good CGI can make a wrinkly old man look.

You are behind my friend, this movie is no secret:

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499519/

2004 article about the first writer hired to script it: http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117914863.html?categoryid=1238&cs=1
Described as "The Pianist meets X-Men"

Variety from a year ago when David Goyer was hired to direct: http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117963871.html?categoryid=13&cs=1
He's the guy who directed Blade Trinity and wrote all the Blade movies and Batman Begins.

The original synopsis was about Magneto as a young man hunting down Nazi war criminals in Argentina.

    Sir Ian rocked as Magneto.

On a side note, has anyone been more "born to play X role" than Stewart was for Xavier?

For years people have been writing about potential casts for an X-men film and Stewart was ALWAYS the Prof.

am i the only one who found the CGI "de-aging" extremely creepy. maybe they could just get a younger actor and dub Ian's voice in.

You're talking about Wizard's Casting Call articles they'd do? Those were always fun, but none of the choices ever panned out except for Picard. Probably for the best.

Yep. Also, just in general conversation, has there ever been any doubt about who would be X? As soon as I heard there would be an X-Men movie I knew he would get that role.

Since they are also doing X-Men Origins: Wolverine I assume there is going to be a whole run of these? "X-Men Origins:The Janitor at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters", etc. for the next 10 years?

It was a bit off-putting, I'll agree. Perhaps if they did it the entire movie I could grow accustomed to it and it wouldn't be so distracting.

    I'd assume so.

All I know is, I'm SO EXCITED to see Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds!!! And they've got Gambit in this one as well? I'm sold!

After this one, I don't care (this is probably a lie).

I had that issue. They had that Warf or whatever from the 2nd Star Trek playing Bishop. This Magneto movie could be so good. He is my favorite comic character of all time. But something tells me this movie is gonna blow. Is it a Marvel Studio film?

Well Beast does not have nor has he ever had a tail. Many other Mutants did though.

As for who else is in the movie, according to the history of the comics, the original X-men battled Magneto many times. Cyclops, Jean Grey, Bobby Drake (iceman), and the beast were the team with support from Prof X. Not sure where they are going with this but I have only one thing to say....

    MAKE MINE MARVEL!!!!!

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool? That's perfect casting.

    Ain't it?

I'm really curious about who they have listed playing Gambit - Taylor Kitsch... I don't watch Friday Night Lights (or SoaP, JTMD, etc.), so I have no clue about him... He could easily pull off the look from his pics on IMDB. I really hope he does a good Gambit - I'll be really pissed if he f's it up.

They did it in the flashback when Xavier and Magneto recruited Jean Grey.

If this is about Magneto's past shouldn't Xavier be a heavy part of it? Unless we are going wayyyyy back into time for the whole movie, in that case no CGI could make McClellan look young enough. Nobody knows if this is a Marvel in house production?

Maybe the movie will end with Xavier dying and the whole thing going into Age of Apocalypse. That would send fanboys directly into orgasm.

You ever see Space Cowboys? They did exactly that for Tommy Lee Jones and Clint Eastwood's younger versions of themselves. Very distracting.

I think they should do an animated adult version of AoA on Spike TV or something. That comic has so much television potential.

No, not exactly. They recognized that continuing on to an X-Men 4 would be expensive as hell as the actors salaries keep climbing, so this is how they've chosen to continue the brand. That doesn't mean origin movies for every character though.

The next possible project is about young mutants at the school or it might turn into a movie version of X-Men: First Class with one movie handling the origin of Cyclops, Jean, Storm (played by younger cheaper actors), Beast, and Prof. X.

So no, I don't think there will be an X-Men Origins: Cyclops, X-Men Origins: Jean Grey, or X-Men Origins: Pablo, the Groundskeeper.

As for casting on Magneto, I'm sure they are going to cast another actor to play him as a younger man with Sir Ian playing Magneto in the present while the majority of the movie is like a flashback.
