Made my day when I read it the other day. Fury Road was, IMO, the best movie of 2015. Beautiful film-making, great action. MAD MAX: FURY ROAD Director George Miller Says Two Sequels And A FURIOSA Movie Are Coming We finally have some positive news regarding the long-delayed follow-ups to George Miller's masterful Mad Max: Fury Road, as the director has revealed that the legal battle with WB is coming to an end... A sequel to Mad Max: Fury Road was looking less and less likely after an intense legal battle between Warner Bros. and George Miller's production company, but the veteran director has shared an update that's sure to make fans very happy indeed. According to Miller, "the chaos has stabilized," and work can now get underway on not one, but two follow-ups to his action masterpiece. "It was hard to get anyone’s attention, so we went to litigation," Miller explained to IndieWire when asked how the legal wranglings hindered progress on the sequels. "The chaos has stabilized and it’s become extremely positive as the dust seems to have settled after [the AT&T merger]." Miller has previously talked about wanting to helm a pair of direct sequels to Fury Road and a Furiosa (Charlize Theron) spinoff, and it doesn't sound like plans have changed. "There are two stories, both involving Mad Max, and also a Furiosa story. We’re still solving, we’ve got to play out the Warners thing, it seems to be pretty clear that it’s going to happen." So, as great as this news is, it's obviously going to be a while before we actually seen any movement on these projects. Still, it's comforting to know that we will ride historic on the Fury Road again in the future!
I don't think I would call it a good story or good mindless action. Neither really does it justice. A weirdly satisfying, entertaining spectacle, maybe? Also, seems like pretty much every moment/decision/shot/visual is carefully conceived and crafted, so I don't think I could ever call it mindless. (Also, Charlize Theron is badass in it.) I'm probably a little biased, but I'd categorize it as essential viewing for anyone who even mildly considers themselves a film buff. There's a reason it has 97% on RT.
Mad Max Fury Road was pure awesomeness. My wife insisted we see it a second time in the theater. She seldom wants to see a film once at the cinema. So, high hopes for any sequels.
Great film stunts and cinematography. It wasn't a great story. Almost a bare bones plot. But it didn't matter. The kinetic action and cinematics were juiced. It's like a yo-yo of inspired flourishes and the calm before a storm, with a lot of madness mixed in. Good in 3-D too. They've never had a good story in madmax anyway. So it's been about the action. But I just wonder how long they can keep that formula up without trying to mix in some story progress.
Mad Max Fury Road almost should have been called Furiosa Fury Road........and in a good way. Theron was awesome. Highly recommend Atomic Blond too (while on the subject of Charlize). No disrespect to Hardy.
The best part of Fury Road was their insistence on practical effects and limiting CGI. All of those machines. Heavy and organic. Let's hope the same approach is taken in the followups.
It was a great movie. Also there were so many great parodies of it/the trailer. The Conan one - below - was great. I recall there was an NBA one at one point and DM's face was on the guitar guy, right???? quick googling and no luck...
Growing up with Mad Max, here's my summary: Mad Max: Good Movie The Road Warrior: Very good movie Beyond Thunderdome: Terrible movie Fury Road: F***ing awesome movie Fury Road is one of my favorite movies in general and, yes it is also excellent in 3D. Must see. That being said I'm very optimistic about the upcoming Mad Max movies - but I hope they're not "sequels" to Fury Road. I hope they're independent stories, unrelated to the Fury Road story.
Fury Road is one of the greatest action films ever. Every single frame, every stunt, every character, music note, shoot even the characters' names, are crafted with purpose and precision. It is a masterful work of auto carnage and mayhem. Looking forward to some sequels, but I hope they can match, or at least come close, to the perfection of Fury.
I agree. Visually one of the most beautiful action flicks ever. Reminds me of the Sergio Leone Spaghetti Westerns, which I'm sure was on purpose.
