Hey guys, Saw King Kong at midnight last night and wanted to share my thoughts. This movie is in one word, INCREDIBLE. Not since I was a kid watching Jurassic Park for the first time have I ever been swept up so fully in a motion picture. Im not just talking about action and thrills, (which by the way had some of the most incredible sequences ever created) but by the utter beauty and emotion of the story. I wanted to write a really good in depth review but doing this on my lunch break at work makes it difficult. I will try to fill you guys in later but the one thing I wanted to convey is that this movie is one of the greatest movies I have seen in recent history. I have read lots of reviews that say it should be shorter but that critique is tright when participating in this spectacle. This is the must see movie of the year, hell of the last 5 years. When the closing credits finally rolled I felt exhuasted. The movie takes you through such a roller coaster that in the end it really seems to take something out of you. Do yourselves a favor and see this movie.
a poster on another board i frequent said it was maybe the best movie he had ever seen. peter jackson is the man.
I'm not really into seeing this movie..Yet another remake of an old story...Yeah its PJ, but so what...Girl gets on boat, Kong likes girl, Kong and girl go back to the States...blah blah blah...Even with special effects, its the same thing...
A lot of people said the same thing about Titanic and look at what a huge hit that was. I know the movie has been beaten to death but when it first came out it was amazing. One of the best movie experiences ever. (The first time)
what sucks for me is i never saw the original or the remake. but, since it's such an old movie, everyone thinks everyone else has seen the original. thus, the ending was ruined for me. i didn't know.... ****SPOILER ALERT (just in case)********* ..... King Kong dies.
I expect this to be way better than Jurassic Park. Let's face it, we don't really want any of that science mumbo jumbo to go along with our dinosaur/monster movie. I want to see lots of monsters smash things good.

Wow. I couldn't disagree more. I thought Titanic sucked when I saw it in the theatres. That said, I still went and saw it with an open mind and will do the same with King Kong, hoping for a great hit.
Sure, people abhor Brokeback for being a homosexual film. But a film that implies beastiality, that's ok.
Now THIS is how you do a remake!!!! Seriously, everything Rox_fan_here said is true. Jesus Christ, I laughed, I cried, I even felt airsick from some of the high-up sequences. First hour, great setup and clever homages to the original (the opening song starts with the fanfare from the original Kong's score, and there's also a great Fay Raye/Merian Cooper joke/reference). Second hour sheesh, what can I say? Take Indiana Jones and throw him into Jurassic Park and you still don't get this kind of entertainment. Jackson gives us THE definitive "Lost World" take. Third hour... SPOILER WARNINGS - part Godzilla, part Bambie/Old Yeller. Even though deep down inside you know how it's gonna end, you can't help but root for the big lug... and when the end does come, you'll tear up like more of a b**** than you did when the robot from A.I. got reunited with his mommy. I'm too flummoxed to write a coherent review. JUST GO SEE IT. It's what every past special effects blockbuster only DREAMED to be.
I thought it was pretty crappy. *spoilers* (if there could be any in a carbon copy of one of the most famous movies of all time) Could they at least had Jack Black say a different line at the end of the flick? So predictable. The dinosaurs looked like bad rehash's of the first Jurassic Park, which was done 12 years ago. I expected the raptors to be a little more realistic looking. And I won't even go into the goonie-goo-goo people. I was disappointed. My two cents? If you think a plot for plot remake of Jaws would be awesome, you'll like this. Otherwise, you've already seen this flick.
well that may be true, but it still made $600M, won picture of the year and a bunch of other oscars, and gets 4 stars on the digital tv guide (which is a minor miracle for a film made in color) so i would say it overcame the "same old story" problem quite nicely. i actually kinda hated all the success it had back in the day but i just saw it on hbo for the first time since it came out, and it really was a real good movie. maybe not deserving of everything it got, but definitely an experience. i was getting a little worried about King Kong b/c none of the commercials had anything from ebert and roeper and any commercial can get nice quotes from magazines and such. but then they added "two thumbs way up" last night and i was sold. now hearing the reviews in this thread is getting me real excited to see it. i don't see how it'll top Jurassic Park for me, but if it does then damn it will have been awesome. this was definitely a movie i did not want screwed up and i figured peter jackson would be the guy to make it work, and it appears he has. damn he's on a roll. also, watching the original on tmc last night, i didn't rememeber so much time being spent on the island. they practically capture him, put him on display, he escapes, he gets the girl back, he climbs the building, and dies all in about 15 minutes.
